Hi there,

I have a 1997 M20R. I am doing a full glass panel upgrade and would like to upgrade my switches at the same time. The new toggle switches found on the new mooney look great. Has anyone upgraded their switches? My avionics guy is having a struggle figuring out what needs to happen. Maybe you know a solid one that can help provide some advice.

I wanted smaller switches, I don’t like the trend to the bigger switches.

Switches are standard, my avionics shop just selected switches with the proper specs (amps, dust resistance, etc)…separate breakers of course.

Most of the original switches are circuit breaker switches. There are limited options for those. If you add circuit breakers to the circuit breaker panel for each circuit, you can use any switch you like as long as it is rated for a higher current than the load.

Any MSC should be able to supply the new Carling Tech switch. You’ll have to redesign the power supply to include the properly sized CB for each switch. You can get the switches form other vendors if Mooney does not currently have a supply of you desire.

I highly recommend the wiring schematics before you touch anything and have your plan ahead of  time

The updated switches are really nice…

and they have a light indicator for status…

They do require the CB being mounted elsewhere…. So start planning the extra real estate for them…

Redoing the panel?  Do you have an emergency bus already?

:)

PP thoughts only…

Best regards,
