My buddy has a K model with a nasty looking boot in the wheel well.  I assume the purpose of this boot is to keep moisture and debris out of the opening that it covers. Does anybody have a good set you’d  be willing to sell? Otherwise, are they available new from any source you know of? Thank you

Ask Hector at AeroComfort to make you some out of leather.  The Mooney Factory Service Center installed two for me in June that Hector made and they said they are the best ones they have ever seen. Mooney riveted the new ones on for me.

I'm guessing they didn't leave Kerrville with all that duct tape, so how are they supposed to be attached?

Some are velcroed, some are riveted, those were duct-taped.  ;)

A guy at the airport used to work at American Airlines. He gave me a roll of FAA certified Boeing duct tape. This stuff is amazing, It will stick to anything and you could tow your car with it.

It probably costs $500/roll

Mooney calls them dust boots. According to the M20J IPC, they were originally glued in with yellow weatherstrip adhesive. Mine have duct tape, and the paint on the tape matches the original airframe paint, so I'm guessing that the factory also used duct tape.

Any aircraft upholstery shop can make some if there is enough left of the old ones to use as a pattern.

What?! No endless debate about unapproved rat socks?  Don’t certified dust boots have to be used with certified duct tape?

It's a "decorative coating".  ;)

On the crop duster we used brushes, or naugahyde, local lady sewed the naugahyde.

People who sprayed liquid like the brushes as the naugahyde ones rotted out, the people who put out dry didn’t like the brushes because they didn’t stop the dry material from getting in.

The brushes were similar to this, long strips we cut to size, the brush lasts a very long time. Ones we used had a 1” flat strip that we attached with screws, maybe 1/2”.
