Kind of odd…

Two nearly indestructible pieces of avionics have stopped functioning normally… on different days…

and having to be anywhere using a plane…. Has been covered in a million different places….

The holes in the Swiss cheese are aligning faster than….

:)

People that want WAAS are hoping their KLN90Bs will croak tomorrow… but it never happens…

Use extra caution…

2 pieces?  I only had one thing break and as reliable as the KLN90B is, it is still a 25 year old piece of equipment...nothing lasts forever.

Also, just for the record, I don't actually *HAVE* to be anywhere really ever.  I'm supposed to be in Georgia on 9/21- 9/23 and plan to fly the Mooney.  If weather looks bad as we get closer, we'll adapt.  The plane has a VOR, DME and ILS and the pilot going with me is a CFII with a little over 2,000 hours so we're capable of flying in hard IMC safely if it comes to it and honestly, as long as there's not convective weather that would make it unsafe, it would be a good experience for me to do that with him.  We'll make a game day decision though, like we do every time we fly.  I have a seat available to me on a Lear45 if I need it so, I've got options.  I'd just rather fly my plane for the training.

Oops… my bad.

Looks like I added somebody else’s challenge along with yours…

Somebody had a SAM display stop working…

I somehow mixed the memories…

MS has so many posts to try to keep up with…

The SAM is also mine, it isn't a new failure though, it was like that when I bought and had been for a while before I got it.  It still controls the AP as it should, you just can't read the display unless you hold your head at exactly the right angle and say the magic words.  Replacing it is more of a want than a need.

I often wonder how you keep track of as much as you do.  I have terabytes of saved files to help me remember things, but then I can't remember where the file is.  And so it goes........

wait until you get older….

Start following a systems approach for everything now…

It is easier to remember a system… than to make one up when you need it… :)

Some things are easier to remember than others… depending on where they are stored in the brain muscle…

Closer to the O2 source… the memories are most clear… furthest from the O2 source… the memories get fuzzier faster….

Often… peoples names are stored in the area where they get lost the quickest…. Holding the name long enough to remember is often improved by repeating their name out loud… (sales 101)

Saying things out loud… has a name. Verbal mediation.  It employs another part of the brain to aid with the memory…

Refreshing the memories has merit… not using the memories requires de-rusting after enough time has gone by…. :)

Memory is a tricky science….  We learn a lot about how the brain works when discussing our O2 levels… and how the brain fails when the O2 level gets too low…

Around here… the people that are easiest to remember….

1) They supply a unique avatar name…  too many are too similar to the next guy…

2) They supply an interesting pic…

3) They post their location…

Using three forms of identification helps to remember if you have the right MSer…

Of course… there is a special place for the MSers that show outrageous behavior…. Marauder gets remembered for his love of the size large…  201er has so many sets of cargo pants it looks like he never changes them…. The list goes on… :)

PP musing only, not a cog therapist…

The AP was a big part of why I chose this one. Nobody wants to hand fly 400 miles.

I think the GPS 175 makes a lot more sense than a 430, I didn't know about those. I'll probably go that route to get something a little more user friendly than the old BK.

HAH! I laugh at you! 400nm hand fly is piece of pie! Train your dog to do it.

Or, go nuts like I did.  2x GI-275, GTN650, SL30 comm2, GFC-500, EI CGR30 P&C, GDL88, GTX-327

Curious why you didn't put your CDI on the left and your engine monitor on the right (unless you don't need the CDI with the 275)?  Pic is hard to see; not sure what the second device is on right side of the pilots panel.  Thanks.

The pair of EI CGRs… is a nice way to get all the primary instruments, and fit in the round holes…

Compare this to the JPI 900… in its rectangular shape. That half covers a neighboring round hole…

Left side, I made my own on my CNC.  I got some CAD fils someplace then tweaked them to fit what I wanted.  No idea where those files might be now, but I’ll look.  Right side panel is a “overlay” to avoid the big mess with the radio stack right side structure, a new one would then get into a re-do of that.

You got it, the GI-275 is the primary CDI.  The right side CDI is primarily a repeater for the nav 2 VOR, and because the autopilot course data comes through the GI-275 from both VOR’s (GTN650 and the SL30). The OBS of the right side CDI is inop, you set the nav 2 course with the GI-275.  Then if you reset the GI-275 course source back to GPS or NAV1 LOC the right side analog CDI is still active and could show, let’s say a crossing radial or something.  It was a case where I already owned it and could be put to use, I had the space, so why not.

I may end up with a Aera 760 over on the right side eventually and if it hides that CDI, oh well.  Or perhaps an iPad mount.  I know: all that stuff and still an iPad?  Yeah,I like to display approach plates on the iPad, traffic too….
