I had a OH done by them and by the time everything FWF was OH'd, it was well above the quoted prices on their website. Nothing wrong with that per se, but something to keep in mind. I have no experience with them, but it clearly shows on their web site that "no accessories" are included and, for a few engine types, cylinders ARE included, leaving the rest without cylinders. It looks to me like a la carte pricing: the quoted price is the case and what's inside -- everything else is extra cost? I may be missing something. Quote

Charlie Merlot sold the biz some years back, so I'm happy to hear their standards appear to have remained high. I'll be facing OH likely sooner than later, and Zephyr is a strong contender. You should consider Lycon in Visalia too - one of the premier engine boutique shops and near you. But not quick at all. 1 Quote
201Steve Posted August 8, 2022 Report Posted August 8, 2022 @Evan I’m going to give this thing a full write up, it was my intent to be professional about it and give them ample time to do the right thing before I got to really hammering about it. Since they have been radio silent, I’m now working on it from a couple of angles that are more pressing in time. I had the unfortunate addition that they also did my install, which was done equally terrible. the good news is, for you, they only did the block/cylinders so, if it’s not making metal, you’re getting good consumption, your boroscopy looks good, probably not much to worry about. (I would double check your magneto clamps and torque values if you have dual mag bc they don’t believe in the dual mag service bulletin) Someone else did all the accessories, someone else wrenched it back together and looked it over. A bad job will have evidence, I had plenty of that. If yours isn’t showing bad evidence don’t fret about it. Quote
FlyWalt Posted August 9, 2022 Report Posted August 9, 2022 Gentlemen, Being in aircraft sales I have done more engine overhauls than I care to. It is a pain in the ass job for both aircraft owner and the shop if they are good. No one is perfect. Ever. I just picked up my M20K from Jewell Aviation on Thursday. I had a 3.7 hour leg back to Georgia to start the break in period. So far so good. Engine runs very smooth and performed very very well. But on top of that, I got to know David and Sam very well during the process. We had 5 months together via phone due to Continental's inability to get cylinders to them. And other logistical issues. The close relationship that was built due to the EXCELLENT SUPPORT and COMMUNICATION is second to none. I was VERY HAPPY with them and would bring another engine to them in a heartbeat. They are a small family run business where Father, Son and Brother and a small group of loyal employees support and care for their clients. That is the attitude that they bring to work every day. They did back flips to take care of every single request and even my smallest question. I am very picky on who works on my airplane. I have also used Western Skyways for one engine. I was very happy with them as well. Feel free to PM me with any questions. Especially about two shops I would avoid like the plague. Peace, Walt 3 Quote
