Cylinder Overhaul

Since cylinders are back-ordered for six weeks, I offered an old cylinder off my a/c to a fellow mooney owner.  It is P/N LW-12427.  My engine is a wide deck O-360, his is a narrow deck.  Will this cylinder work on his engine?

No.  Wide deck and narrow deck cylinders are not interchangeable.

How do you know if your engine is a narrow or wide?  Is there an easy way to determine it?  Thanks

Think the narrow deck have a cylinder hold down flange the wide deck does not.  It is the black piece.

Look at the engine serial number in your logbook- if it ends with a letter, it’s a wide deck. If it ends with a number, it’s a narrow deck

The narrow deck has the plates on the cylinder base and the internal wrenching nuts.  The wide deck has no plates on the base of the cylinders and regular hex nuts.

Do not rely on the engine serial number. Look for the plates and the internal wrenching nuts which are unique to narrow deck cylinders.
I know about an engine that has a wide deck serial number, but is needs narrow deck cylinders.
