I have a 78 M20K 231 that has Glare Fences on each wing tip (part number 210386-001 & 002).  Can someone enlighten me, other than the obvious, as to what glare these prevent?  Mine are pretty bent up and the lower portions are broken off.  My assumption is they aren't anything aerodynamic, just to reduce glare from the stobes/nav lights?    (Part #6 on the diagram).

Those little, thin pieces of metal keep the nav lights and wing tip strobes from shining / flashing directly into your eyes, while you are in the cockpit.

Yes, although I recall someone pointing out since their leading edge is so sharp, they'll be the first place you'll pick up icing.  I've thought about painting mine black specifically for that reason

On my old F Mooney, it had a built in ice detector. The Scott OAT gauge was the first thing to pick up ice. It was right there, you didn't have to strain your eyes to see it.
