N601RX Posted December 22, 2011 Report Posted December 22, 2011 How many people are using a cooling fan for their avionics cooling? For the ones that are not have there been any unexplained avionic failures? Were the avionics older or newer? Quote
John Pleisse Posted December 22, 2011 Report Posted December 22, 2011 I do...did wonders for the Garmins and was installed for around $375. Distribution type...seperate tubes to each radio. Even in the summer though, the stack still gets a little hot, additionally, I aim the the side board weemax vents upward into the space behind the panel. This helps and is a poor man's avionics fan. flight2000 Posted December 22, 2011 Report Posted December 22, 2011 Yep, had one installed to help the 430W with cooling in the back. Paid about the same price. Brian Quote
jetdriven Posted December 22, 2011 Report Posted December 22, 2011 We have a troll fn-300 fan. It has five ports which is overkill for a kln-89b. We just use one port. King requires a fan for the 89b and I think garmin does also. We got it off eBay for 80$ and owner-supervised installed it. Quote
KSMooniac Posted December 22, 2011 Report Posted December 22, 2011 Ameriking makes some... my plane came with one to blow on the 530/430 combo and I have no complaints. Quote
ToddDPT Posted December 22, 2011 Report Posted December 22, 2011 Ours blows on our 430 and Aspen. Quote
fantom Posted December 23, 2011 Report Posted December 23, 2011 Mooney installed one in my plane back in 1995 because the panel was hot to the touch. It's been cool ever since. Quote
