Luci Posted August 21, 2021 Author Report Posted August 21, 2021 Manual gear. When I crank the engine (it’s a twist and push to start switch), if I push all the way it stops from cranking, so I have to release de pressure a bit. (I think I need a new switch; took it out, re-tension the springs, cleans the triangular contacts, and still not working to my liking). And once the master switch is on, gear horn starts screaming. Wouldn’t shut up even at engine runup. Quote

ilovecornfields Posted August 21, 2021 Report Posted August 21, 2021 Top Gun is in Stockton. If they can’t fix it for you it can’t be fixed (except fuel leaks, they don’t really like doing those). http://www.topgunaviation.net 1 Quote
Yetti Posted August 21, 2021 Report Posted August 21, 2021 There are plates to rebuild the switch. The stall horn may be bumped, or wet. Spray with contact cleaner. to Search mooneyspace Put mooneyspace and the subject in Google. Leave the .com off or it will go to the site. 1 Quote

Wouldn’t shut up even at engine runup. Gear horn has two components, a microswitch behind the Jbar downlock and a throttle position switch that should be set to should be binary in function. If the horn silences on takeoff it’s because the throttle position switch opens the circuit above ~12” of mp (if properly set). This is an easy system to trouble shoot but not so easy to access. carusoam Posted August 22, 2021 Report Posted August 22, 2021 Welcome aboard Luci! Looks like I’m too late to add anything but welcome aboard… 1) Bendix switches do get old after about 50 years… 2) They are completely rebuildable …. Buy the kit… 3) Remember how important the switch is for keeping your engine running…. Don’t wait to see what else can wear off of it… 4) Take pics of the wires on the back… and any jumpers you see…. Everything has to go back the same way when your mechanic is done with it… 5) New switches are available from Aircraft Spruce… 6) There are even some newer style push to start types that are getting used lately… keyless… 7) My M20C’s push to start part of the ignition switch stopped working the day I sold my plane… it was a bit dodgy before… but completely unable the day the new owner showed up… 8) Gear horn has two switches to make it sound… throttle out, and gear up…. One switch is on the throttle push rod… the other up in the down lock block…. 9) Not mentioned yet…. The Mallory sound producing devices sometimes get a short wire down stream of the horn…. The horn is always powered, the other two switches supply the ground…. 10) sounds like it could be a short in a wire above the ceiling panel…. PP thoughts only, not a mechanic…. Best regards, -a- Quote

Best regards, -a- Regarding the keyless push to start switch, can you point me toward one it can be installed in my F, please? Thank you for the kind advice. I’m still waiting on the Canadian Aircraft Registry to de register the aircraft, so I’m trying to get it ready f Quote
carusoam Posted August 22, 2021 Report Posted August 22, 2021 The electronic magneto guys like the push buttons…. And independent mag switches… A few options are pictured here… https://www.aircraftspruce.com/menus/el/ignitionswitches.html Lots of details to be filled in…. Best regards, -a- Quote
