Caribbean Aviator Posted July 27, 2020 Report Posted July 27, 2020 Guys, The rotating beacon on my new to me 1969 M20F is not working right and I decided to upgrade to a Wheelen LED beacon. If I did my research properly I believe the correct part is the OR36S1W for red and white or the OR36R1W for just read. Can anyone verify if that is the correct part? Also do I need anything else to replace my factory one or is everything required for installation included with the new one? My second question is regarding which LED landing light would be the proper replacement. They have some labeled as landing light, others as taxi and at least one labeled landing/taxi but seems to be of lesser intensity. I would like some feedback on what you think works best. Thanks in advance! Quote
carusoam Posted July 27, 2020 Report Posted July 27, 2020 We have a Whelen guy around here that may be helpful... @OSUAV8TER... Best regards, -a- Quote
Hank Posted July 27, 2020 Report Posted July 27, 2020 This is what I did. The old trim ring fit right onto the new LED. Both were / are red & white. The new Whelen is very bright! Quote
Robert Hicks Posted July 27, 2020 Report Posted July 27, 2020 I just installed one this weekend. Has some troubles but it’s all good now. Quote
Jeph357 Posted July 27, 2020 Report Posted July 27, 2020 I did one about a month ago. Was a little arts and crafty.... Now I'm thinking of ways I could've/shouldve done it but had the template from the removed one. 2 Quote

As for your landing light, we need to figure out if you have a PAR-36 or PAR-46 sized landing light first, then you can go from there. If you only have one light, I recommend a landing light (more of a spot light vs a taxi light that is more of a flood light). 1 Quote

Best regards, -a- I just got my LED beacon yesterday from Gallagher Aviation! Highly highly recommend. No tax, free and fast shipping, and 10% off as I believe they extended their sale. Now I just need to get around to installing it. 3 Quote

Now that the sale has been extended I will probably order the landing light. +1 on the Gallagher recommendation. I called them with a couple of questions and got immediate feedback from a real person. No leave a message and we will call you back. 2 Quote

Sometimes you have to leave a message because I’m getting yelled at by my wife or my toddler son is creating chaos! I appreciate the PIREPs guys! 1 Quote

Following a uAvionix tailBeacon installation I ordered a set of Chroma wingtip LED nav lights from @OSUAV8TER a week or so ago, and just tonight upon learning that Whelen’s sale had been extended I ordered an Orion 360 LED belly strobe to replace my coffee grinder with as a compliment to @orionflt’s electric step conversion kit installation. Goodbye vacuum system and hello ~ 1025 pound useful load in my ‘65 M20C. I can’t wait to fly with it all. MooneySpace is such a tremendous resource. I remember when MAPALog was pretty much all we had that was type specific. It is very easy to forget nowadays just how good we have it. Jim How I treasured that 2-foot-tall stack of MAPALogs I was given when I bought my C! And no, I don't want to go back. @OSUAV8TER has some really good stuff, good prices and great service. I enjoy supporting my friends with my business. Quote
