jrwilson Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 Anyone do an image search of their N#s? I did one of mine and found someone had submitted a picture to flightaware.com from when it was at a display day at Cameron Park and someone else had posted a set of three pictures to airport-data.com when it was parked at Fullerton. I have no idea who the people are who posted them, "plane spotters" I guess. Anyone else think that is a little weird, going around posting pictures of other peoples planes? Or is it just me Quote
carusoam Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 Welcome to the information age... Flight aware will have a photo of your plane submitted by someone else and anyone can sign-up to be informed about your flight by email if you go flying IFR. My photo on flightaware was picked from mooneyspace by someone else and only my dad is interested enough to be notified when I am flying.... I can see how this can be an annoyance for other people. Best regards, -a- Quote

OR75 Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 http://www.airport-data.com/photographers/Todd%20Royer;3551/Mooney;17055;1.html I find it amusing that someone can take a picture of MY plane and puts a copyright on it. To be honest, amusing is not the word I really want to use. I cannot remember him asking permission to take a photo of MY property Quote

OR75 Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 legal does not always make things right Quote
flight2000 Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 But that's a slippery slope once you start down that road. What would be next and where does it stop? How about flying over my home since I hate noise and fear an airplane crashing into my house (not me personaly, but I've heard this before)? Quote
OR75 Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 slippery slope indeed. Common sense should prevail. Quote
201er Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 You gotta admit that's a pretty nice collection of Mooney photos he has going there. If it is promoting general aviation in a good way, don't see anything wrong with it. I see a photo of my plane in that bunch but from several owners ago! Ha. Anyone wanna guess which one it is. Quote
tony Posted August 5, 2011 Report Posted August 5, 2011 The General Rule The general rule in the United States is that anyone may take photographs of whatever they want when they are in a public place or places where they have permission to take photographs. Absent a specific legal prohibition such as a statute or ordinance, you are legally entitled to take photographs. Examples of places that are traditionally considered public are streets, sidewalks, and public parks. Property owners may legally prohibit photography on their premises but have no right to prohibit others from photographing their property from other locations. http://www.krages.com/ThePhotographersRight.pdf Brian Quote
Barry Posted August 6, 2011 Report Posted August 6, 2011 Having a copyright of an object or setting does not dis-allows others to take similar pictures of the same subject. The copyright only keeps others from using that specific picture for monetary gain. If an ad agency wants to use that specific photograph in one of their ads they will need to pay the photographer a royalty for its use. Seems fair to me ... Quote
