MARZ Posted June 8, 2011 Report Posted June 8, 2011 I know that it's been covered generally - but I am wondering if anyone in the Texas area can give some input on the performance of the unit in and around central Texas. The ADS-B coverage map is somewhat empty for the Houston to Oshkosh route which would be my immediate use. Basically buying it for the weather capability - but the GPS is an added bonus I'm looking to purchase one but would like a better warm and fuzzy before I plunk down close to 1 amu. Quote
MARZ Posted June 9, 2011 Author Report Posted June 9, 2011 BUMP - anybody? anybody? is this thing on??? Quote
KSMooniac Posted June 9, 2011 Report Posted June 9, 2011 It was my understanding that there is pretty much no ADS-B coverage in the center part of the country, east of the Rockies. I'm anxiously waiting for that to fill-in and then I'll get excited about getting some new hardware and dropping XM. Quote
Piloto Posted June 9, 2011 Report Posted June 9, 2011 Looking at the coverage map it looks like I will be keeping XM for a while. The coverage map for ADS-B shows final coverage down to 1800 feet and in some areas down to 5000 in the US only. If you are doing an approach or flying low to avoid weather above then the Sky Radar is totally useless. Because there is no wx technology for the Bahamas I rely on XM/WX when going across, very effective. I would feel more comfortable buying the Sky Radar if it would be able to show weather on a Garmin unit like the G496 or G530. Jose Quote
