Falcon just sent me renewal quotes from Star/MAPA and also Phoenix aviation managers $1502. and $1391. respectively.   Does this sound about right? I am with Star now and have 0 deductable.  Phoenix quote has a $200. in motion deductable.

Quote for one Private pilot w/instrument clean record, 950 total time 120 retract mostly all same make and model Mooney in the last 12 mo.

1988 M20J  120K Hull value, 1mil. combined single limit bod inj , prop dam w/  100k per passenger limit  5k medical per pass.

Would it be possible to get the rate down if I was a CFII / Comm Pilot? Any thoughts appreciated and thanks in advance.   T.F.

That rate is about as good as you're gonna get.  I renewed my Mooney in Feb 2010 (sold it later in the year).  At the time I was Comm'l CFI 700 TT 200RG 150MM at the time and paid $1488/yr with Starr on a $110,000 HV 1990 M20J.

Phoenix and Starr are both good insurance companies with broad policies.  Comm'l or CFI probably won't help much if any.  If you fly non-owned aircraft, make sure the policy you get covers you in non-owned aircraft...noting the max seats and horsepower the policy affords.

I too think you're near the minimum available and most of that quote is due to the hull value, so even if Chuck Yeager were getting a quote it wouldn't be much better.  Once you get 100+ M/M and the instrument rating then it won't change a whole lot with extra ratings....

I am with Falcon/Starr, last year I paid $1379 for my 1970 M20G ($50,000 hull) with $1 mil single limit and $100k sub. At that time I was Private/IFT 320tt, 64 retract and 3 make/model. I should easily pass 100 make/model when renewing, so I'm hoping that'll help. :)

I've done some shopping for insurance for my 1966 M20C.  Hull valued at $60,000 with liability limits at $1 million per occurrence / $100,000 per passenger.  All the quotes have the same limits of liability and hull value.  Medical benefits vary a little between each one but most are either $3,000 or $5,000.

The quotes below reflect those limits.

Avemco                        $1,696              $300 not in motion / $300 in motion

            Chartis / Aerospace       $1,067              $0 deductibles

Global Aerospace          $1,078              $50 not in motion / $250 in motion

Phoenix Aviation            $1,298              $0 not in motion / $200 in motion

            Starr Aviation                 $1,067              $0 deductibles

            US AIG                         $1,276              $0 deductibles

US Specialty                 Declined to quote – quoted to another broker

            London Aviation             Waiting for quote

I also just shopped policies. My 65C with 70k of hull coverage will be insured for $1210 via global. I've got 635 hours, 482 of which are in M20s. No instrument rating. Other carriers refused the 70k hull value.

We are missing an important factor in all these quotes, apart fromt he fact that this is an old thread, and that factor is the age of the pilot.
