Folks,  time to change carpet, but one thing has been bugging me for years, the area where my heels rest,

about 12in by 20 inches is about 1 in below the rest of the floor area, so the carpet does not really fit well and

maybe there should be something like insulation or padding in this area to make everything level.

not may mooney's up  here in Quebec,   sorry about such a dumb question, but before I put in my new carpet

I would like to know.  Thanks   Mike.

That is really not a dumb question.  When I bought my Mooney there where lots of things that had changed over the years and when I go to fix them I have to try and figure out how it was originally. I have some clips at the bottom of my front spar that must have held in a panel to cover it up, but the spar was just carpeted over. Now I am trying to find out what was there. I just changed my carpet and bought it from Plane Plastics. It comes with a certificate of compliance. Sorry I am no help to your question but someone I am sure knows the answer.

Bonjour Mike,

I have installed new carpets this last fall in my 1965 M20C. I bought the kit from SCS interiors (I strongly recommend them) and did not have such an issue near the pedals. One suggestion, take a picture and post it here. I am sure someone on the forum would have suggestions. We have a few experts (one of them is also a Canadian: Clarence) who might be able to help You could also send the picture to Don Maxwell for his opinion if you do not get an answer here.

Ou est basé ton avion Mike?

I was working with them but got a quote for $980 to do my interior in wool! I had heard they were raising their prices and I saw around $500 on their website. Your prices translated to US dollars the same?

SCS makes a higher level quality.

There is a lower level of quality but pretty good overall. If you need CB level pricing...

I am wondering if the A model might be different with the footwell as described.

As for the back seat with the clips and exposed spar... back in 65 on my C.... the spar was covered by a flap of material that extended down from the seat cushion.  The flap was held in place with an aluminum rod held in with the clips...

Best regards,

We always pay more in $CDN about 20% premium. VISA (or my bank) does the conversion. The price I see on their web site seems the same (from memory) as what I paid in the fall. I am not sure I understand what your issue is with them. I only see carpet /floor kits and a few seat cushion covers stuff... I do not see whole interior kits anywhere.

My quote wasn’t even for a full interior set. The parts I need are the two under the seats and the floor of the baggage area. My baggage area side panels, the spar and the lower area of the side panels were all replaced when I had the Spatial Design interior installed.

They might not be the best (cheaper) to deal with for custom stuff but I got very good service and turn up one piece of my kit.

Hi Mike,

Sorry I don’t have an answer for you, I’ve never worked on an A model, most newer models have flat floors.  Other than finding a pre-fab supplier you may have to buy material and have a local shop sew it for you.

Mike,

when I renewed the carpet I exactly thought the same, level it...

But I learned that you need the heels area to properly touch the pedals, its really different when braking or steering during taxi, you will not like it with the carpet leveled on the M20A.

Maybe later Mooneys have higher pedals, I did not check this out.
