rogerl Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 Maybe some competition will help these wacky prices (and mitigate anticlimactic product announcements). Quote
carusoam Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 "KSN 770 will have Localizer Performance with Vertical Guidance (LPV) and Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS)" Is anyone currently using their GPS for LPV approaches? I haven't seen any LPV approaches in my neighborhood. So I don't feel like I missing anything yet. Put an LPV on my home drome, and I will be much more interested. Best regards, -a- Quote
TLSDriver Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 I have a garmin 430w. I use the LPV approaches all the time. I can tell you that I prefer them over ILS. The 'needles' are super stable. It isn't subject to some of the crazy behavior that an ILS can have. It doesn't get me as low as an ILS but it is darn close. If things realy got ugly, in an emergency, you can fly it until the wheels straddle the centerline. Quote
thinwing Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 Waas enabled approaches are all I fly now...I have a choice between an ils and lpv approach to my home airport....the ils is better by 50 ft but the lpv is super stable...I choose it every time...kp couch Quote
fantom Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 Me three....LPV approaches are rock solid. Quote
Comatose Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 It can't hurt, but how many times now has the KSN-770 been shipping "By the end of the year"? Quote
flight2000 Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 It actually shipped at the end of last year, but then the software issues reared it's ugly head and units started locking up inflight. They went back to the software developer who could not fix the issues and thus the partnership with Aspen to fix it. Quote
Jeff_S Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 LPV approaches all the way. As noted above, a capable autopilot and correct use of speed control will let you fly one of them all the way to the ground in a last-ditch scenario. I did it to about 50' AGL in VFR just to test it. Quote
