gitmo234 Posted August 21, 2017 Report Posted August 21, 2017 Gents, Does anyone have any recommendations for an Avionics installer near NOVA? I'm taking advantage of the Avidyne trade-up program next week. Turning in my Garmin 430W for an IFD 440, as well as a new transponder and Skytrax 100. The 440 is a slide in replacement, the transponder *might* be a slide in replacement for the KT-76A, but the skytrax will require some real since it supplies ADS-B in/out Quote
LANCECASPER Posted August 21, 2017 Report Posted August 21, 2017 The transponder won't be just a slide-in replacement since it needs the WAAS source wired into it from the IFD440 and you definitely want the audio from the transponder wired into your audio panel. Also since it's in the shop make sure that they wire the audio from the IFD440 into the audio panel. That way you get it all done at the same time. Also the IFD440 doesn't come standard with WiFi and Bluetooth, it's can be done for an unlock fee. Mayke sure you negotiate that into the deal. Quote

Brings up a good question. the IFD-440 has an airspace and 500 feet altitude call out, what audio alerts are given with the AXP-340? Not sure you'd know, but the website just says altitude alerts, curious if its just the 500 feet alert or more Quote

Not sure you'd know, but the website just says altitude alerts, curious if its just the 500 feet alert or more Here's what the installation manual says: 9.5.7 Audio Output The Audio Output is on the 12 way secondary connector. The Audio Output is a balanced (two wire) audio output that can be connected to an unswitched input on the aircraft audio panel. Audio output is up to 10 Volts peak-to-peak across the pair when driving a 600 Ohm load; actual level can be adjusted at installation – see Section 10.5.14. Note: The audio pair is not a true transformer balanced output – both pins are actively driven. If the audio panel input is single-ended, then only one of the output pins should be used, together with a local ground pin – the other audio output should be left floating. The Audio Output carries the altitude alert tone used by the altitude monitor function. Quote
