231MJ Posted July 31, 2017 Report Posted July 31, 2017 Has anyone used an ACS ignition switch to replace the Bendix switch? The price difference is significant (ACS = $140 and Bendix = $460 at Spruce). Side note: I did not make Oshkosh this year - hope everyone had a great time. The new avionics are really exciting. Quote
mccdeuce Posted July 31, 2017 Report Posted July 31, 2017 Third option? When I installed my EIS system I also put in their STC switch panel. To me the key is not adding security and I prefer the simpler operation of just switches. Electroair told me you can install with 2 mags. More than ACS at $269 but more reliable in my opinion) http://electroair.net/switchPanel.html Quote

According to ACS, their switch is not approved for the Mooney. Clarence Quote

The price difference is significant (ACS = $140 and Bendix = $460 at Spruce). Short answer: Yes. Longer answer: I own an M20C. In the early 1960's, the M20C used a switch similar to the ACS without the push-to-start position. Instead, those early models had a starter interrupt switch that allowed a user to disconnect the starter circuit to hand-prop the airplane and still use the shower of sparks. I am an A&P/IA and ran the idea by my FSDO that, as a minor alteration, I was returning my airplane to an earlier configuration in order to use this switch. The switch has been approved as a PMA replacement, albeit for a different airplane type. My FSDO agreed, I wrote it up on a 337 in order to document the process and make it an official part of the airplane records, I installed a starter disconnect switch as described above, and am now using the ACS switch (which I am very happy with, by the way.) For your M20K- no way. Your Bendix switch probably just needs some cleaning and maybe a new switch plate, all readily available from Bendix. A local locksmith can probably do the work. 2 Quote
231MJ Posted August 1, 2017 Author Report Posted August 1, 2017 Thanks, Andy. I have searched the internet for the Bendix repair parts and just can't find a vendor. Do you know someone that sells the Bendix switch repair parts? Thanks Quote
Guest Posted August 1, 2017 Report Posted August 1, 2017 Go to the Continental website and look for manual X43002-1 it covers ignition switches. Parts should available through most suppliers. Clarence Quote
231MJ Posted August 1, 2017 Author Report Posted August 1, 2017 I found the repair kit on the Aviall site. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. August Quote
