I missed the BBQ - I've been on the road (read"in the plane") every weekend this month traveling out of state, but I will let you know when we are planning a run. It often includes N329DM out of your home field.

Good guys. Adam and...? I have met them on a few occasions. I'm in.

Sent him a PM...

Dave, I am about 25 minutes west of you at KPLR in Pell City, AL with about another half dozen or more Mooneys on our field. Last weekend there was a group of AL/GA Mooney pilots who got together for lunch up in Cullman, AL (which I missed) and I think we are trying to get something going on a semi-regular basis.

If you are picking you plane up in Texas, see if you can work it out to swing by the factory in Kerrville. Nothing like seeing the shiny new ones being built!

The wife and I sometimes head up to CHA or RMG for breakfast on Sunday morning with a couple of Mooneys and a plastic plane that doesn't know how to lift its legs up. Drop me a note when you get your plane and I'll give you a heads-up when we make a run.

And I have to side with Scott on the headset. Love our A20s.

I made it to PLR a couple of weeks ago for the BBQ and met a couple of the Mooney guys there (for all I know, you may have been one of them). Anyway, give me a heads up when you're heading for breakfast one morning. It would be great to meet up.

Once I actually GET the aircraft and get checked out, I'll be looking for excuses to go somewhere.  Please keep me in mind when you have these type things.

Looks like the current owner just got hired by FedEx!  Great for him, but he's in class all the time now, so it may be a few days before it can be delivered.  He's in Memphis (of course), but is planning to deliver the Mooney to McCollum for me.  Pre-buy will be there, and I'll take delivery there.

Dave (OP), did you go with Bill R for the local CFI? I gave your son his contact info via PM.

Thanks for the recommendation, BTW.  I called Bill, but didn't get through.  I think I may have awakened him...

I kept going down the list (from here, thanks again, all) and got through to Dave Theisen.  He and I are set to get started as soon as I have the plane.

I'm thinking I may want to fly with more than one CFI, so I'll call Bill again.  IMHO, it helps to get advice/training from more than one source, see different techniques.  I figure I'll fly with someone for the first month or so, as I'm not going to want to venture to Idaho in the winter until I REALLY know what I'm doing.

I'll be on the road for the next few days, so apologies in advance if I don't respond quickly to more suggestions.  But please keep them coming and thanks again for everything so far...

Since headsets are mentioned anyone try the new in ear faro's under $400 with a thirty day guarantee?

These look an awful lot like the Clarity Aloft headset.  They weren't as comfortable for me and the replacement plugs seem pretty expensive too.  I'm not sure that is an issue considering how rarely I replace my Halo ear plugs.

David then you'd recommend the Halo's, I flew about six hours on at trip last month and my Bose bothered me the last couple hours

Dave, just sent you a PM with my number.  Not sure what happened as I don't remember getting a call from any unrecognized numbers.

In any case, I'm happy to help in any way.  I've had my K for 1,000+ hours now and have really enjoyed it.

Of course, would love to hear from an F-15 driver.

I just went back and looked at my list, and I think I woke up Jim Stevens.  But I did just call you and leave a message!
