nels Posted April 8, 2016 Report Posted April 8, 2016 When was the roller cam engine introduced in the 201 and how can you tell a roller cam engine from the flat tappet version? Are there different variations of the roller cam engine through the 201 years? Quote

carusoam Posted April 8, 2016 Report Posted April 8, 2016 And Byron installed one a while ago. See his thoughts on it... best regards, -a- Quote
KSMooniac Posted April 8, 2016 Report Posted April 8, 2016 It was never "introduced" in the 201 line as production ended in 1998. Factory overhaul/reman/exchange engines will likely have the roller cam mod if done within the last 5 (?) years. I'm not sure when Lycoming released it. Quote
jetdriven Posted April 9, 2016 Report Posted April 9, 2016 For most models, 2005. Mine has shown high iron content and a generally crappy response from Lycoming, but once We bumped the timing to 25 degrees like the type certificate says, it's been a good performer. Curiously, cnoe's 1978 dual mag flat tappet engine'd 201 blows it away on takeoff and climb. Quote
bradp Posted April 9, 2016 Report Posted April 9, 2016 Does the roller tappet version address any of the deficiencies in the valve train design, specifically the suboptimal oil flow to the rocker arms / valve guides? Quote
jetdriven Posted April 9, 2016 Report Posted April 9, 2016 the oil pressure is set much higher, that helps. Quote
