N9937c Posted November 5, 2010 Report Posted November 5, 2010 Anyone here have any Turbo Arrow time? Have been flying in one checking out a student and I have to say am fairly impressed with the performance. But it is still a PIPER. larry Quote
Barry Posted November 5, 2010 Report Posted November 5, 2010 Yea, I have a few hours in one. Got a Mooney instead ... Quote
Immelman Posted November 5, 2010 Report Posted November 5, 2010 I have several hours (10?) in a Turbo Arrow IV. From what I remember, it was the only arrow I enjoyed flying, that did not seem to be an under-performer like its NA brethren. I actually enjoyed flying it quite a bit. As I recall we flew that airplane from Bellingham down to Reno, and a couple other trips. Full fuel, 3 adults on board, etc, and it was a happy climber on warm summer days in the mountains, but we did not have O2 on board so we kept it below 14K or so. This was well before I became an airplane owner or even flew a Mooney. How it stacks up to its Mooney counterpart (231/252), however, is probably another story. Quote
DaV8or Posted November 5, 2010 Report Posted November 5, 2010 It stands to reason that if there is a big improvement in the turbo Arrow over the NA version, then there should be a corresponding improvement in the turbo Mooney. The 231 should be faster still and I'm not sure any more money. Quote

Vref Posted November 5, 2010 Report Posted November 5, 2010 From technical and aerodynamical point of view there is no comparison ...and that's not me but the engineers repairing my aircraft..........though the more expensive pipers might be a choice Meridian, Matrix.. OK I thought this over ...a Arrow IVTurbo...might be a good choice but still ....look at the numbers...........I am living in a part a of the world where a 3.5 liters of avgas cost about 10$ Quote
John Pursell Posted November 5, 2010 Report Posted November 5, 2010 Yes, I rented and instructed in a Turbo Arrow. It was a nice plane to fly. All of the issues were with the engine. The TSIO 360 demanded some care in operation. During the same period of time, I flew both the M20K (231) and the Turbo Arrow. Don't remember exact numbers both the Mooney was faster. Quote
Parker_Woodruff Posted November 7, 2010 Report Posted November 7, 2010 M20K will outperform and also look much cooler in the process. Quote
ToddDPT Posted November 7, 2010 Report Posted November 7, 2010 Here is an article comparing the 201 to the turbo arrow http://www.planecheck.com/turboarrow.htm Quote
