Looking for some new courses to play in the North East!!  Does anyone have suggestions for places I can fly in, NOT need a rental car, and that's within 150-175 miles of Baltimore or Philly.

Mountain Airhttp://www.mountainaircountryclub.com

(Not certain if a membership is required.)

Mountain Air requires permission to land and, due to a number of accidents on approach over the years, permission generally requires an invitation and discussion with one off their pilots. I think the invitation to come and play is probably easier than the permission to land.

The 32 runway looks like it slops upward, or is that just an optical illusion?

I'd like to land there some day.  I think reading these first is a good start... There are 14 incidents/accidents listed in the NTSB Database for Burnsville NC

Only 2 Mooneys - one substantially damages and the other completely consumed.  Both were pilots that had landed there before...

Check out Loch Nairn near N57. Some Cheap Bast$&d Marauder guy would make sure you had a ride there. It is about 2 miles from the airport.

There is the Airport Golf Course in Columbus,OH.

Right under the approach end to 27. My first time there, with almost 100 hours total time, Tower had me fly an airliner pattern, and as I was desperately trying to slow to gear speed over the golf course, they asked me to keep my speed up, "there's a 737 behind you." Without thinking, I answered back that I needed to slow down to get the gear down. I actually added throttle after touchdown to make the high speed exit at 3000' (I was based at a 3000' field!).

It slopes upward. It is also, like many mountain airports, one with opposite direction traffic. Land of 32, takeoff on 14. The slope is one of the reasons. It also helps for both takeoff and landing given the 2900' length and 4432' msl altitude (just under 7,000' D-Alt as of the time I write this)

Not quite the Rocky Mountain west, but doing performance calculations is important. non-HP Mooneys, for all their attributes, are not know as great takeoff performers.

Not exactly a Saturday morning trip from the NE, but the Hangar Hotel bellhop met me at Fredericksburg, TX with a golf cart, offered to take my luggage to my room, so I could take the cart and get right on the golf course on the other side of the runway. Um, no thanks... I passed 'golf' in college by the very skin of my teeth, (aced the written) and haven't touched a club since. It did seem like a very attractive option for those more coordinated than I. Also landed for fuel at a tiny airport in the SW corner of Kansas, and the closest unlocked restroom was the adjacent and very pretty golf course. The pleasant golf-guy in charge cordially hoped we'd brought our clubs. So, should you decide to go further afield, the opportunities abound.

French Lick Resort http://www.frenchlick.com has three golf courses.

The Pete Dye course hosted the Senior PGA Championship this year and is pricey but awesome!

The resort runs a shuttle to and from French Lick Municipal Airport (KFRH).

Arcadia Bluffs https://arcadiabluffs.com is an awesome course along Lake Michigan. Resort will ususally pick you up at Manistee Airport (KMBL).

For those in Florida (X26), from airport website http://www.sebastianairport.org/

Fly in to the Sebastian Municipal Airport and play a round of golf at our great new "fly-in" discounted rate for airport users.

The Airport has golf carts available on the ramp outside the Administration Building on the southeast side of the Airport. Contact The Community Development Director/City Engineer/Airport Manager Frank Watanabe at 772-388-8228 or  E-mail  fwatanabe@cityofsebastian.org for cart reservations. You can take the cart directly from the ramp to the adjacent Municipal Golf Course.
