Cruiser Posted June 10, 2015 Report Posted June 10, 2015 Well, finishing up on the annual inspection. Everything is back together except the engine cowling. We need to run the engine and check for leaks etc. Cleaning the inside of the lower cowl has revealed delamination and heat deterioration on the area closest to the exhaust stack on both sides. There is visible heat discoloration and the inside surface has distorted and separated from the cowl skin. Fortunately, the outside and paint do not show any sign of overheating. So the question is has anyone dealt with this problem before? A quick search didn't show any other threads on the subject. Is there a heat reflective tape or panel that can be put inside the cowl? The parts manual lists heat shielding in this area and my cowl has it in place.
M20S Driver Posted June 10, 2015 Report Posted June 10, 2015 I looked into it and was told that the shield is made by Thermo-tec. Not sure what the part number is...
triple8s Posted June 10, 2015 Report Posted June 10, 2015 http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/eppages/kevlarheatshield.php?clickkey=2351393 They sell a special sealant for it too. Replaced it last year and it still looked new at last oil change. Pillows and bag of kitty litter will hold it in place till the adhesive dries, doing one side then the other.
