orionflt Posted May 3, 2015 Report Posted May 3, 2015 There has been several threads on here about CHT temps and the pro or cons of different baffling set ups. I rebuilt my doghouse when I had my engine off 2 yrs ago, when I put it all back togather I sealed up all the gaps and seems. since doing that I have been extreamly happy with the results. today I was flying home from vermont and I took the time to take a few pics of my instruments while in cruise, as usual my CHT's were around 300. the thing that impressed me the most was during my takeofff from sugarbush I did a Vx climb from takeoff at 1300 ft up to 4500 ft, from 4500-6500 I transitined to Vy followed by a cruise climb to 8500ft. during the climb my temps never exceeded 400 degrees on any cylinder, most of them were hovering at 350. BigTex Posted May 3, 2015 Report Posted May 3, 2015 Brian, you have one special C... I officially have temp envy. Quote
Lood Posted May 3, 2015 Report Posted May 3, 2015 Same here. The first thing I added after I bought my F was the Lasar cowl closure. CHT's were all somewhere around 360 deg in the cruise, going up to 380 during climbs. After I had the engine overhauled and new baffles fitted, #1 and #3 now sits around 280 deg in the cruise and just over 300 deg during climbs, while #2 and #4 will be around 325 deg in cruise and 350 deg during climbs. Before the engine overhaul, I also had to fiddle with the cowl flaps to keep CHT's in check, but now, they're always closed during cruise flight. Quote
atn_pilot Posted May 3, 2015 Report Posted May 3, 2015 Damn, I'm envious. I'm lucky to keep my C from going over 400 in the climb, and it hovers around 375 in cruise. I'll be shocked if it makes it to TBO. Getting the cowling mod is high on my priority list. Quote
Bob_Belville Posted May 3, 2015 Report Posted May 3, 2015 Is 21.5" and 2350 your climb power setting? What kind of CHT do you see if you climb @ full throttle and 2500 or similar? Quote
Hank Posted May 3, 2015 Report Posted May 3, 2015 I left the NC-SC border this afternoon, north of Greenville, and climbed at 100-105 mph from field elevation 1046 to 8500 msl. WOT / 2700. My single factory CHT needle was below the top of the green arc. This was probably helped by the doghouse work just done at annual. I normally climb at Vy but it was a little bumpy and I kept slacking off. Temps were in the low 80s on the ground. Quote

What kind of CHT do you see if you climb @ full throttle and 2500 or similar? actually Bob, that was my cruise settings to keep me out of the yellow arc, I normally climb at 25 squared but for this flight I was full throttle max rpm for the initial climb, when I went to Vy I I reduced my RPM to 2500. on the climb the Max temp was 375 on my hottest cylinder, 340-350 on the rest  Brian Quote

My Oil Temp is over 200F unless I'm 65% or below. Quote
ryoder Posted May 5, 2015 Report Posted May 5, 2015 My Mooney engine is just like me. Gets overheated and spends its time in the doghouse. 3 Quote
Hank Posted May 8, 2015 Report Posted May 8, 2015 Remembered to take a picture this morning, but forgot on the return leg this afternoon. This is Oil Temp and CHT passing through 4000msl on a Vy climb from 264 msl to 6500. It was warm out but not hot; sorry I didn't record much, I was trying to pick up FF but ATL passed me off to Montgomery Approach. Didn't want to get near Birmingham without talking to them. L/R Fuel, Oil Temp, Oil Pressure, CHT and Ammeter. Quote
