DrBill Posted January 31, 2015 Report Posted January 31, 2015 I did a search and this topic has not been started so here we go. I just got a kitchen pass to attend while I visit my relatives in Round Rock. So I'll fl commercially to San Antonio on the 13th and go to Round Rock on the 17th then home on the 20th. I have a rental car. Bob B are you going ? I can pick u up at the airport as I arrive around 1115 and figure an hour to Kerrville. Got a good fare of $325 RT. My one way gas would be that much (9hr * 9gph = 81 gal * 4 = 324). Can help others too with no ride. Will stay at Inn of the HIlls. BILL Quote
Bob_Belville Posted January 31, 2015 Report Posted January 31, 2015 Hi Bill, I have not made reservations but I hope to go again. Nancy and I will be in Malibu the prior week and I toyed with flying the Mooney to CA and stopping at Kerrville on the way home but that's too much of a good thing for her taste. Maybe someone would like to join me. Last year I stopped in Greenville MS for fuel coming and going, each leg was less than 3 hours. May 14-16. $325 sounds really good. CLT/LAX is up quite a bit from last year in spite of fuel costs. Quote
Bob_Belville Posted January 31, 2015 Report Posted January 31, 2015 When is the event? May? Yes, May 13-17. If your wife's not interested fly down and we'll take my plane out to Kerrville. Quote
Marauder Posted January 31, 2015 Report Posted January 31, 2015 Yes, May 13-17. If your wife's not interested fly down and we'll take my plane out to Kerrville. I may be game this year, new job, hopefully a little more flexibility in my schedule. Will gauge the wife's interest. 1 Quote
dcrogers11 Posted January 31, 2015 Report Posted January 31, 2015 I was looking for info on this years homecoming, but couldn't find it on the MAPA website. Could someone please attach a link? Thanks, Don Quote
Bob_Belville Posted January 31, 2015 Report Posted January 31, 2015 I was looking for info on this years homecoming, but couldn't find it on the MAPA website. Could someone please attach a link? Thanks, Don Wow, www.mooneypilots.com is badly in need of updating. I see nothing on homecoming there. We just received the January MAPALOG this week. Quote
DonMuncy Posted January 31, 2015 Report Posted January 31, 2015 The info is in the MAPA log, but I think it is somewhat in error. I think they picked up the write up for a previous one and incorporated parts into the new one. It is my understanding that it is May 13 - 17. Contrary to the MAPA Log, it "come in Wed evening, stuff starts on Thursday, go home Sunday". In case you don't/didn't get the Log, call Trey or Lela at MAPA, and they will tell you. If you need a registration form, let me know and I will copy and email it to you. Or call me 214 207-6744. Quote
dcrogers11 Posted January 31, 2015 Report Posted January 31, 2015 Thanks, Don. i'll be in KERV in a couple of weeks to look at 182 for a friend. I've not been to the new MAPA office so I may run by and say hi. NB-If you wanted to have a Mooney gathering like we did before at my place, April 18th or 25th would be work on my schedule. I'll cook the burgers. Don Quote
Danb Posted January 31, 2015 Report Posted January 31, 2015 Chris let me know..I may be able to scope it out with out going alone...I've been to Kerrville in 1988 to get a new J so it's been a long time... 1 Quote

Sabremech Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 Hoping to be there with my Mooney and the new prototype cowling mods. If I don't make it with the airplane, I plan on bringing pictures down to show anyone who might be interested. It's going to be difficult to get it done and flying by then, we'll see. David 1 Quote
dcrogers11 Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 My schedule finally worked out to attend so this will be my first time. For those who are regular attendees, what do you consider to be the high points of the 3 days. Also, my wife is really not a big aviator, but will be coming with me so will there be enough for the ladies that she won't be totally board? I see there is to be judging on Saturday, are there classes or year/make divisions? Thanks, Don 2 Quote
DrBill Posted February 1, 2015 Author Report Posted February 1, 2015 This will be my 3rd but not in a row. High points are the forums ( very good), the ice cream social and banquet. There is a LOT for the non-aviators. I forget where they went last year but it was a big topic at the dinner. There are classes but I don't know what they are. Bob B won the best E, I remember that. If you go out to the airport for lunch you'll get a ballot which has the classes. Oh yea, and the factory tour. Bill Quote
DonMuncy Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 Don, For the first one, the forums will probably be the highlight. For me, the best thing is getting to see all your friends and to meet new ones, and put faces with names. Airport day is also nice, getting to see everyone else's plane. They usually have a pinch-hitter's course if you wife has any interest. They have a fashion show lunch for them also. Unfortunately for the wives, there is quite a bit of vacant time if they aren't interested in the forums. Tell her to bring a book. The awards are generally grouped by model designation, with some combining. A, C, E, F, G, J, K, M. R, Acclaim. (Don't hold me to this). My memory is faulty. We ought to get a group together for dinner Thursday night. We, as a group, have eaten at the Cowboy Steakhouse before. One of the MS guys family runs it. I forget his name. Maybe he will chime in. jetdriven Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 Perhaps they will have a white trash plan contest because we will win that in a heartbeat. Gray primer, old paint, bare aluminum. 2 Quote
FoxMike Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 I remember many years ago one fellow with a particularly rank Mooney was awarded a 50 lb bag of dog food. He kinda took it in stride. Quote
Bob_Belville Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 Some models are not that competitive. Lots of Cs, Js, Ks but I think there were only 3 Es which I found disappointing considering according to Bill Wheat the E is the best model ever. Quote

Hank Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 They usually have a pinch-hitter's course if you wife has any interest. They have a fashion show lunch for them also. THAT WOULD BE GREAT. MY WIFE HAS EXPRESSED INTEREST SECERAL TIMES, NEVER DID ANYTHING, THEN MY CFI CHANGED JOBS AND WE MOVED. We ought to get a group together for dinner Thursday night. We, as a group, have eaten at the Cowboy Steakhouse before. One of the MS guys family runs it. I forget his name. Maybe he will chime in. That would be McStealth. I've never been to Kerrville, and don't recall the name of his restaurant. Maybe one year? Maybe this year? It's closer from Lower Alabama than from West-by-Gawd, Virginny. It's always good to meet MooneySpace folks, and of course Mooney owners are always nice. Quote

I sure would hate to have someone think of my Mooney as "disappointing" I'm certain it's not as nice as most but it's pretty special to me. 2 Quote
carusoam Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 David, McStealth, Cowboy Restaurant, has family that worked at Mooney... Sounds pretty familiar! Best regards, -a- Quote
