Houman Posted November 16, 2014 Report Posted November 16, 2014 Hi, following an earlier post couple of weeks ago about how to winterize the rocket, my mecanic has told me that he can't find anything officiall from Continental for TSIO 520 NB... As I understand, I need to tape the oil cooler or something. It would be amazing if a Rocket owner can take a picture of their winter setup so that I know exactly what to do, any speciffic help woulld be great. I went flying yesterday and it was a bit cool and my edm oil indication took about 10 min of running at 1000 RPM to get over 80 so that I can start taxing... Thanks !!! Quote
Guest Posted November 16, 2014 Report Posted November 16, 2014 Not sure if there was ever a winter plate for the Rocket. Some Mooney's have a plate some don't. Many Ovations do, failing a solution I've heard of some old timers placing a piece of 1/2" thick felt in front of the oil cooler. It restricts the air flow somewhat to raise the temp. Clarence Quote

Heya, I will take a picture for you when I do it at next oil change. Mostly yes, its just taping the oil cooler. 10 min to reach 80F? Did you start it cold? With my preheater - my engine and oil are already close to 80F before I ever turn it on - even in Jan. I would definitely be preheating already - anything getting close to freezing point. 1 Quote

That sounds like a fire hazard. Quote
