OP ED-"Little Timmy Wants to Know Why Nobody Likes Airplanes Anymore?

Recommended Posts

At least we can agree on something.

Don't quite understand why it's pronounced Bayner, other than the family wanting to save themselves from embarrassment. We don't fly on BAYING 747's or listen to music with our BAYS speakers.

Yup, the English language is strange indeed. Speaking of pronunciation, how come Obama isn't pronounced A$$ Hole??

We need a new button...

I agree with SfromI on one thing. But there is no way I can 'like' what he said...

Dave...

blowing up Ploesti oil equipment was a big step in accelerating the end of WWII... It is difficult to fight without energy to feed the war machines.

I am not familiar with bio diesel being produced in a large enough scale to be commercially available. Some areas use fats and oils collected from various restaurants...the chemical industry used to call this tallow...

There is a company down the street working to commercialize turning nat gas into gasoline...

OPEC is not your friend. They probably won't ever be. They do like predictability as a business. Expect that they want your local energy source to permanently fail. They will supply as much as they can to look friendly while crushing your supplier economically...

It can work both ways. Supplying oil locally puts tremendous stress on OPEC.

A nice economic balance seems good for many suppliers. That is how OPEC came about. Protecting the higher cost producers in place of the single lowest cost producer.

Remind me again how well price controls work? Something familiar from conversations of the 70s...

Lower fuel costs are like a tax break without driving government into bankruptcy.

All good ideas?

Best regards,

-a-

Those diaperheads make me laugh. On one hand they are all about tradition and wanting to retain customs from the seventh century, including the garb they wear and the way they treat their women. On the other hand, they pick and choose which modern technologies they will embrace, including all things military. If they are so set in their ways and want to live in the seventh century, why not do the honorable thing and fight with the weapons available during those times? How about getting around on camels instead of Mercedes? Talk about picking and choosing.

Removing the uptick rule in the stock and futures markets seems to be disastrous in terms of price fluctuation and spiraling downward acceleration of prices....

High frequency trading requires hardware that an average investor just doesn't have.

Was that in the G-S Act?

When everybody is talking about the stock market, that's a tell...

Fortunately, it's just us talking about timmy's political future. Not, the penny stocks he is going to select to get rich...

Or the 3X short ETFs whose prices reset at the end of each session.

Timmy has a lot to learn...

I can't tell, are you talking about OPEC here or Republicans?

$5.00 gas to be independent and send Saudi's up the river? Sign me up.

North American energy independence...It's a beautiful thing.

Middle East? Continue your tribal warfare without us.

Have a nice time.

Kuwait? Saudi Arabia? Provide your own security.

Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan...Have at it.

Bye bye. See you in 200 years when we are out of oil.

Or save our oil and let the Middle East run completely out of oil in 200 years and then the last remaining influence they have over us will be gone. Then we can say screw you and your problems, fend for yourselves, we no longer care how you turn back into the third world countries you always were.

Or is that too harsh?

Who changed the rules?

William Jefferson never say a pair of tits I didn't like Clinton

He most certainly did sign the bill, but he didn't go in front of congress and make the proposal. Washington was bombarded on all sides by the banking industry. Clinton in later years said part of the reason he signed it was because there were more than enough votes to override his veto.

Not quite. China will gladly accept any oil that we don't use or have the need for.

Fine. Let China have the Saudi oil. We're good.

Actually, we wouldn't be good. What you are proposing is that we use only domestic oil, which would result in a cost of $5/gal but because we wouldn't be importing oil any longer, the price for middle east oil would drop dramatically to levels lower than we could produce it domestically.

I realize it's part of your utopia, so it's fun to talk about.

Example of a progressive policy that has worked for decades?

I 100% agree on giving the derivative protection to wallstreet. It was a Dem and GOP deal. The worst is the clause allowing fund managers to modify pension plans. It is supposedly to "save" the underfunded pensions from default...When the pensions start getting cut...like SS should be to remain solvent you will hear the squaking at level 10...and nothing will be done and pensioners will drain the funds and have nothing but SS that will also be drained...

AWESOME.

What about the one now allowing political contributions in excess of $325K per individual. Because even at the current level of 30 some thousand, the illusion that yours or mine vote counted as much as that of Jamie Dimon's was just that, an illusion. Setting the limit closer to $100 might actually level the playing field where an average American might actually be able to make Grasley listen. But when it's $325K, Jamie, to whom that amount is a total joke, couple hours worth of pay will get whatever derivate regulations Jamie needs.

Totally agree.

But where's the outrage from the American people? Have we simply resigned to the fact that the captains of industry will continue to steer and influence policy to their liking?

Timmy might be living in a Progressive Utopia when:

-Someone commits violence or a crime and the first question is "what did society do to make them commit crime"?

Conservatives are just as guilty of that as progressives. It's just than the answer is different. Obviously having a large class of criminals is a failure of society starting with family and going all the way up the food chain to federal government policies. Conservative solution is always more Jesus but if that was the solution, south side of Chicago would be the safest neighborhood in US of A. The liberal solution is always that not enough money got thrown at the problem. The answer is complex and lies somewhere in between but it does start at the family level.

Timmy might be living in a Progressive Utopia if:

-Judaism & Christianity can be unmercifully attacked and Islam and Sharia Law may not even be examined critically.

Not my utopia. In mine, religions of the illiterate desert dwelling goat herders are taught in history classes ;-) And allowed to be freely practiced in private, but policies as to suitability of bacon and shrimp as food stuff is left in the hands of FDA and not based on a 4000 year old, rather confused, poorly written novel. Same with all other government policies. The Lord does not get to dictate liquor policies on Sunday so that more money gets left on the collection plate. Apparently made a mistake of hitting Costco too early in the day today. Jesus will make me drive to the store again before dinner and make me acquire wine at an inflated HyVee price, therefore messing with my ability to grow my  wealth. Something about camels and needles I guess?

I don't know. Most appear to have bought into the whole money == free speech and corporation == person. I'm enjoying this for a moment because it will backfire and backfire immensely when trial lawyers start using both citizens united and hobby lobby case to strip board members and share holders of their corporate limited liability protection. Such is a beauty of common law and precedent.
