721lp Posted June 21, 2010 Report Posted June 21, 2010 Anyone know who is good in the southeast for fuel gauge overhaul? Mine just simply don't work well. One will not go over half way and the other is sticking. I religiously stick my tanks, but I would really like to have these work a little better. Quote
mooney27239 Posted June 21, 2010 Report Posted June 21, 2010 My guages have never been accurate either. During my last annual my A&P worked on them, thought it was a ground problem. Sometimes they will seem somewhat accurate. At other times I can have a full tank and the guage shows full, fly for 15 minutes on the right tank and the right guage will go to 1/2 full. Fly another 15 minutes and it is showing almost empty. It doesn't bother me to much because I guage the fuel by computing flying time. But it can be disconcerting for passengers who are unfamiliar. I do alot of Angel Flights so I continually have different passengers. At next annual I intend to install the fuel guages in the following link if they are still available and mark the instrument fuel guages as inop. http://www.donmaxwell.com/publications/MAPA_TEXT/Wing%20Fuel%20Gauge%20Retrofit.htm Quote
danb35 Posted June 21, 2010 Report Posted June 21, 2010 The wing sight guages are still available; just under $700 from LASAR for the set for my F model (bought last month). For repair of the original guages or senders, I've heard good things about Air Parts of Lock Haven (http://www.airpartsoflockhaven.com/), but have no personal experience with them. It'd be worth doing some troubleshooting to determine if the problem is in the guages, senders, wiring, etc. Quote
fantom Posted June 21, 2010 Report Posted June 21, 2010 Start with Maxwell's advise from link above. If it is your fuel gauges then http://www.airpartsoflockhaven.com/ can't be beat. Even Mr. Maxwell uses them. Quote
Immelman Posted June 21, 2010 Report Posted June 21, 2010 Kelly Instruments will overhaul them for just over $100. I had them re-build an errant fuel gauge and they turned it around quickly. They were recommended to me from the LASAR parts guys and I in turn recommend them for repairing the cluster gauges without question. Quote
721lp Posted June 23, 2010 Author Report Posted June 23, 2010 Thanks guys..........I will check both places... Quote
