yvesg Posted January 13, 2014 Report Posted January 13, 2014 I thought some might want to know about this. I reported to the Foreflight team a bug about the display of the flight rules on the maps. green is used to show VFR however it is also used to show reporting stations that do not provide visibility and/or ceilings. These should show as "grey" because it is not known what would apply without the visibility AND ceiling. Image attached. Note that all surrounding report stations show as IFR or worse. Yves Quote
rbridges Posted January 13, 2014 Report Posted January 13, 2014 good catch. that could potentially get someone into a big mess. 1 Quote
Jeff_S Posted January 14, 2014 Report Posted January 14, 2014 I don't understand your point. If the station isn't reporting visibility then why did it show up in the METAR. I agree that it's bad to show data that doesn't reflect reality, but I wonder if you have exactly the right cause. I have also seen FF occasionally show the flight rules status color for a nearby airport, when the airport being selected doesn't have an automatic reporting capability. There's clearly a bug somewhere. Best thing to do is use common sense and assume that if all else is red, a green island in the middle is probably an anomaly. Quote
yvesg Posted January 14, 2014 Author Report Posted January 14, 2014 My point is simple: if the reporting station does not report ceiling AND visibility, show it as grey (unknown condition) instead of green. It is not possible to decide which flight rules apply without BOTH. Yves Quote
yvesg Posted January 14, 2014 Author Report Posted January 14, 2014 The above example includes visibility but no ceiling. It should state "CLR" if there is no clouds, then it would be VFR. Yves Quote
Jeff_S Posted January 14, 2014 Report Posted January 14, 2014 Ah, well, in your first post you said "visibility and/or ceilings" so that was the source of my confusion. Quote
yvesg Posted February 1, 2014 Author Report Posted February 1, 2014 Looks like they have resolved the issue. i am seeing several flight rules icons now being shown grey (with a question mark inside) . Ataboy Foreflight! Yves Quote
MB65E Posted February 1, 2014 Report Posted February 1, 2014 Yes, their great! I bet they responded quickly too? !! I've emailed them a few times a year, and I never have waited more than 35-40 min for a response. Good Dudes! -Matt Quote
Bennett Posted February 1, 2014 Report Posted February 1, 2014 Foreflight has been great, in my experience, resolving problems, and I commend them for that. I recently had a renewal snafu that was the result of a glitch in their process. The director or services called me directly to assure me that they had untangled the mess, and they did that. I have found them to be very responsive to suggestions for future features. All in all, a class act. To be fair, I have had excellent experiences with Jeppesen and Garmin in solving various problems - one if which I created by updating two of my three SD data cards-used the wrong cards for downloading the next cycle charts. Corrupted both the cards, but with their help, all is well. No, you can't just re download the data to the "right" cards. We are lucky in avionics that we can get technical support with competent people. Compare this with HP's Indian call centers. Quote
