FlyDave Posted January 6, 2014 Report Posted January 6, 2014 Hi all, I bought this headset about 4 months ago when I still had my J. I've since traded the J for a Bravo and my old Lightspeed Zulu is a better headset for the Bravo so I'm putting the halo up for sale. It comes with 3 sets of the yellow standard tips, 3 sets of the pediatric tips, 1 set of the triple flanged rubber tips - all unused - and the case. It also comes with a lifetime supply of batteries Price on Halo website is $359 but the Halo web site says they're sold out right now. First $275 (firm) takes it. PM me if interested. Dave Here is a picture of the unit
Cruiser Posted January 6, 2014 Report Posted January 6, 2014 I will offer positive comments for the Halo. I got mine a couple of years ago and I must say the clarity in the mid range frequency (voice) is remarkable for me. I can hear ATC and pickup ATIS broadcasts much clearer than before. My "say again" requests are rare. The background noise is muted nearly as good as active noise reduction but it does not cancel noise so you need not fear missing a new engine sound or an alarm horn.

KSMooniac Posted January 6, 2014 Report Posted January 6, 2014 Fair price... that is right in the ballpark of what I paid for mine from ebay.
Hank Posted January 6, 2014 Report Posted January 6, 2014 Hi Dave -- I'll take them Congratulations, Quick Draw. You'll like them.
Marauder Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 Congratulations, Quick Draw. You'll like them. Thanks. I bought Dave's despite seeing Stinky Cargo Pant's (aka 201er) Halo headset up close and loaded with ear wax. There was enough wax to make a couple of candles... The real reason I bought the headset was because AOPA didn't send me one of those hats without the button on top. Wait a sec... That was another thread... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk 1
bnicolette Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 There was enough wax to make a couple of candles... That's putting it mildly.
Marauder Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 That's putting it mildly. I was trying to be nice. Ok, there was enough wax to outfit a couple of churches.
Hank Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 So now you, too, will have help keeping the wax out of your ears! :-) just use the silicone tips, and roll them between your fingers before you put them in. Each set should last a couple of years, they do for me. No, never used the foam tips. Can we stop all of the name-calling now, and go back to acting like adults? If I want to read that crap, I'll visit the Red or Blue Boards. 1
carusoam Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 Man, am I late to the party..... I could use a set or two... Best regards, -a-

Marauder Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 Man, am I late to the party..... I could use a set or two... Best regards, -a- Sorry Anthony. Maybe after I fill them up with my ear wax, I'll sell them to you.

I've been trying, but the weather through the mountains won't cooperate. Then again, ya'll could have an event a little further from the coast, say west of the SFRA?

Then again, Brett will be getting that Baron and you can come over with him!
FlyDave Posted January 7, 2014 Author Report Posted January 7, 2014 Oh...what have I started? Chris - if you accumulate enough ear wax on these, will you start wearing cargo pants, get long range tanks and fly to Belize? 1
Marauder Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 Oh...what have I started? Chris - if you accumulate enough ear wax on these, will you start wearing cargo pants, get long range tanks and fly to Belize? That seems to be the preferred progression. Buy Halos, filled them up with ear wax, start wearing cargo pants and get them dirty on the way to Belize. I will say one thing about Mike. He has a sense of humor about those pants. And yes, you started all this
Hank Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 I prefer buy Halos, keep them moderately clean, wear cargo shorts and cool hats. This is my winter hat, going to ride with a friend (nervous first small-plane passenger--isn't trust wonderful?).
FlyDave Posted January 7, 2014 Author Report Posted January 7, 2014 I wore cargo pants when I rode motorcycles in New York City in the 70's.....but I'd feel too much like Kramer going into a pizza parlor if I wore them now..... 1

mikesalman Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 Has anyone compared the Halo headset to the Bose A20. I have the Bose but have been considering getting the Halos because my ears get sweaty on long flights. Would I be sacrificing sound quality for comfort?
carusoam Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 I borrowed a pair of Bose and compared to my Halos... Nothing beats the Bose for their sound canceling effect. They are almost as stylish as Beats by Dr. Dre. Downside is the price and bulk. Nothing beats the Halos for their ability to deliver sound in the cockpit. Downside is the earplug style may take getting used to for some. You won't miss a call in the IFR environment. Nothing goofier than trying to exit the cockpit with the halos still plugged in.... Signs of comfort... Anyone that is tall in sitting height, will really appreciate the Halos. Especially in turbulence. My experience was gained in a pair of long body Mooneys, both R & S. they are a little more quiet than others, worth mentioning.... My thoughts, shared, -a-
Marauder Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 Mike - I can't speak to the Bose, but will be able to give you a PIREP on how they are relative to Zulus. I am pretty sure Mike (201er) had a pair of Bose that he replaced with the Halos. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
bnicolette Posted January 8, 2014 Report Posted January 8, 2014 I have a set of Bose and they now sit on the rear seat back waiting for a passenger. I prefer the Halo's. The sound deadening with the foam tips is awesome and I keep my intercom volume much lower than I have to with the noise canceling headset. The best thing to do is give them a try. I believe he has a return policy if you're not happy with them. I would guess he gets very very few of them back. You will have to clean the foam tips from time to time (hint hint 201ER). Or just buy a whole bunch of extra ear pieces and throw the old ones away.
