  1. I couldn't get into certain coastal airports in California without LPV approaches. For example Half Moon Bay or Watsonville have 300ft minimums for LPV compared to 800ft minimums for the other GPS approaches. The bases could be 400ft - 500ft all day sometimes at these airports. So it would depend on where you fly.
  2. At 75% power and 2500 rpm it would work out to about 480 ft-lbs of torque
  3. Yes. Still getting used to it. I may go in change some more settings. I still have to calibrate the %HP. Seems like there are differences between Mooney's POH numbers and Lycoming's tables for MAP/RPM/FF.
  4. At WOT at 70% power, my CHTs are within around 30 deg. #2 was the coldest, the other three within 6 deg of each other.
  5. Unlikely this extrapolation works. First there is the J to E base price difference, then mechanical condition/corrosion/interior, AFTT, SMOH etc. Then comes avionics and add-ons. Even within the J models, there is a difference between the '77, '78 and later 80's models. The variability could be easily 50k or more depending on all these factors.
  6. That was fun. I wish I had my portable "john" for the drive back. LOL. Look forward to the next get together.
  7. Thanks for the info. I couldn't find this page through normal navigation from the FAQs (maybe didn't try hard enough!). I would have never thought of searching for "pre-alarm". Either way, I managed to reprogram the user CHT limits to 400F, OIL-T to 195 (minimum possible) and default lean method to LOP.
  8. Not sure if my PM got through... Anybody else interested in meeting with Marauder in the South Bay this evening or tomorrow?
  9. If you go to the Google Play Store and look at the "My Apps" section, it will indicate if you need to update the app. By default, it should tell you updates are available unless you turned that off.
  10. It is called "bocce" ball. Close enough! I will PM you my contact info. Would be good to meet up for a beer in the evening.
  11. How long are you here? I work in Santa Clara, CA.
  12. It could be an issue. My old gauges were very unreliable and inaccurate. The cluster gauge fuel pressure used to read 15psi (actually was 24psi), the oil temp was intermittent and the factory CHT/EGT readings were garbage. I did keep the RPM gauge and I do have a separate panel voltmeter. So with the backup voltmeter, RPM gauge I roughly know what the engine/electrical systems are doing (at least for a short time).
  13. That's what I remember reading somewhere. Did you have to send back to the factory or could the avionics installer do this? Thanks.
  14. I finally got the JPI-900 installed (replaced the EDM 700) and now have reliable primary gauges. I do have a question to those who have put in a primary such as the JPI 900/930 or others. Were you able to add a user limit for the CHT or get defaults changed by JPI? I don't like the factory setting at 475 for the IO-360 A3B6 engine. Do you have to live with it if there is no user limits?
  15. I think this is true in uncoordinated flight. If turns are coordinated, the left wing would be lower and hence the speed differential is compensated by the lowered left wing. I can see the problem in a skidding turn where there is insufficient bank and too much left rudder. Hopefully one doesn't get to the point where the AoA is in the yellow to red regime in either direction of turn. It would be time unload the wing .
  16. Mine is on the right side as well. No special reason.
  17. Before putting in the JPI-930, I would recommend the fuel senders be overhauled at Air Parts (Lockhaven, PA) telling them you would be using this in conjunction with this engine monitor.
  18. I recommend Executive Autopilots at KSAC. They fixed my Century IIB console.
  19. and if the tanks are leaking!
  20. Usually it is a disconnected antenna, squelch not set correctly, input levels into GTN (or other GPS) to/fro audio panel overloaded or too weak, perhaps a poor vacuum connection etc. Some of it like ADS-B can only can be verified in the air, but most others can be checked on the ground. All of the mistakes/omissions have happened to me. Nothing too serious but be prepared for some surprises and fly VFR the first time if possible with another pilot as Oscar mentioned. A handheld would be a good idea.
  21. Top Gun may do small re-patching but not major re-seal work. I had checked with them before I took mine to Troutdale. They are the closest for us on the West coast. As 9514V mentioned, Greg will make it easy for you to get to/fro from Portland Intl.
  22. European rules allow more NOx but lower CO compared to US EPA rules, so it is tougher for diesels to meet the US pollution standards. That would effectively keep diesels out by making them uncompetitive with gasoline cars in the US. The fuel economy gains would be less spectacular which is what I guess BMW and others who are complying have to contend with.
  23. Yes, same guy. I had not heard of "cross-over angle of attack" before and how it played a role in certain recovery situations. The last bit about the Delta pilot getting out of a jammed elevator during take off by rolling to reduce was quite something. Who would have thought of that? And then the "drinks are in first class" comment. LOL.
