  1. Also strikes me as really bad shit to be around, as in, you don’t want metal dust in your lungs. I just want a good 3D printing solution for investment casting.
  2. I doubt Sheltair is setting those prices. I’m a Sheltair base customer and am happy they’re here and not Signature. Our hangars go up every year as prescribed by the city.
  3. What speeds are you seeing? I get 155+ ktas here in Florida at cruise power settings. Up north it’ll cruise in the yellow at 5,000ft msl on cold days.
  4. I’ve lost the little plastic ring that goes around the lap belt buckle. It’s the part that allows the shoulder strap to securely clip into the lap belt.
  5. It takes weeks for fuel prices to drop in response to oil prices, but they go up immediately.
  6. Horizontal component of lift turns the plane. I was taught to maintain a visual gap under the wing of the lead plane and be prepared to dive away from the other plane if things didn’t look right.
  7. The hangar shortage in Florida is poor management of real estate. There’s plenty of land and building more hangars would be immediately profitable.
  8. There’s a shop at FXE that is known for being pretty good. Prior to sending my Rocket exhaust off to Rocket, I brought it to these guys where they found additional cracks. The amount of work warranted a significant rebuild and I decided to go to the source, but even for the inspection and sandblast they were extremely fast and didn’t charge me much to show me everything that was needed on the one stack. http://www.aircraftexhaust.net/
  9. Bruce Jaeger in Minnesota knows Mooneys quite well. Even if it’s not all of your training, I recommend him for transition training.
  10. Par-36 - teledyne alphabeam
  11. I would use this opportunity to upgrade to a Powerflow. I have one on my m20f and she performs great.
  12. https://www.airplane-covers.com/ I went with these guys for the Rocket and went with a lower quality material because the plane only occasionally sleeps outside and it made for a lighter and more compact cover to keep in the baggage compartment. I paid a little extra to have them make an access panel for the door since I always seem to forget something after putting on the cover. I also have a cover from Bruce’s for the M20F and they make a solid, high quality product. My only complaint is that I don’t like that it requires replacing a couple screws with those snap screws to snap down the front corners of the cover.
  13. I had a complete failure at 200ft on takeoff departing a reputable and well-known MSC. I landed in the field at the end of the runway. I declined an intersection departure on a 10,000ft runway. The cause was FOD through the #4 cylinder that destroyed the plugs. My theory is that something was left in the intake and when I pitched up, it rolled to the back of the intake and got sucked in, bounced around and destroyed those plugs. Nobody got hurt and the airframe was not damaged. I stop short of naming the shop, because I am not 100% certain that it wasn’t coincidence. But I mention it was a reputable MSC because I see a lot of people here who feel they have the Lord’s protection based on who signs their logbooks and mitigating risk under all circumstances should not be neglected. We have a member here who got fueled with Jet-A and he didn’t even place a fuel order. Someone swapped tail numbers with a King Air or something.
  14. I’m surprised I don’t get a multi plane discount. I can only crash one at a time.
  15. If you continue to have starting issues, get a slickstart.
  16. Think of taking a hair comb and putting it under the water coming out of your sink. There’s plenty of pressure, but it prefers to go around the teeth unless there’s nowhere else to go. It sounds like this is what’s happening and the air is going around your fins and not through them. Check your baffling. Also check for obstructions preventing air from exiting your lower cowl under that cylinder.
  17. Single biggest unique Mooney thing to look for is explained here.
  18. I have the long rudder. The highest winds I have landed with in my m20f have been reported as 29kt sustained direct crosswind with full flaps.
  19. Keep in mind that if you are too high on the glideslope you can get a false glideslope above and your autopilot will stall you.
  20. Also wanted to mention to be sure your idle is set to where it runs at very low RPM, but doesn’t quit with the power out. 200RPM difference in idle RPM can be 2000+ft difference in landing distance depending on when you chop power and dramatically affect how quickly you drop airspeed.
  21. 67F enter pattern at whatever speed, slow to 120 gear speed 2 miles out. 100mph on final and slow to cross numbers at 75-80mph unless attempting to be stopped within 500ft; in that case carry slow flight at 70mph across the numbers. Rocket: same as above, but in knots and gear speed is 130kias. Getting rid of 20-25mph on final is easy and keeps you at best glide until you really need to be slower and allows for pull power off final approaches. I operate out of a 2800ft field On ILS approaches, I maintain gear speed until visual. No airport in the country with an ILS has a runway so short that you can’t bleed off the extra speed after descending past decision height.
  22. I have to use the low boost pump as soon as I hit around 17,000ft in the climb or my fuel flow drops off; once I level off, I can turn the pump off and all is well.
  23. Why are you missing your IAT on your EDM900? Or did you sneak around that and put the CDT probe on the other side of the intercoolers?
