  1. Any chance you would post the e-mail so I could show it to the Airport Manager at Castroville, TX (KCVB) to show them how they need to stay competitive with other area airports are charging? Thanks
  2. Probably not what you want to hear, but the Moritz gauges fail one by one until you finally just re-do the panel and put in a replacement (JPI EDM 930, MVP50).
  3. I have the GDL39 3D and use the Bluetooth to connect very well to my Aera 796, iPad & IPhone 6+ (both with Garmin Pilot). It works great. I always update the firmware and software on the devices to the latest and have no problems connecting. I have the cable that powers both the 796 and GDL39 and the battery backup for the GDL39. I like the idea of a back up Attitude Indicator and the Synthetic vision. This sits on my glareshield and has never overheated - I live in TX.
  4. Dave Gill at Crownair at Montgomery Field in San Diego (Mooney Service Center) did a great pre-buy on an airplane I bought. Couldn't be more pleased with what they did.

  6. I think that deserves bonus points
  7. The Rocket is a very fast airplane. One thing to consider is that TBO on that engine is 1600 hours even though the seller has it listed as 1800. http://www.aircraftbluebook.com/Tools/ABB/ShowEngines.do?sortKey=&sortOrder=&pageIndex=10 So overhaul costs per hour plus fuel costs per hour are the highest of just about any Mooney. Of course you're going faster so less hours per distance traveled also. I would also be surprised if at over 1000 hours SMOH it didn't need new cylinders - most turbocharged engines do unless they are flown very conservatively. It looks like the Rocket Conversion was signed off 9/15/1993 (he says in the ad September 1994) , so about 22 years ago. Back in 2008 ads show it as having 1955 TT back then and now it only has 1855? Or is he saying 1855 since the Rocket Conversion? It looks like the same owner since 2006. It's a 252 airframe which means it's more desirable than a 231 Rocket Conversion (one piece belly, 28V, more modern panel etc.)
  8. You could learn it for sure, but your insurance company would probably be the roadblock.
  9. I don't think they offer the DeWalt model any more - thank God. If you are going to go the Milwaukee route get a Robotow or Sidewinder - huge difference in design - hardly any difference in price. I have the Robotow - in the beginning you're thinking that you're spending $200 too much on it. You'll soon forget that when it does the job. If you spend $100-$200 too little on it you'll always be kicking yourself.
  10. This is his reaction in regard to his dealings with someone else, not me - but a professional business person would have enough common sense and self control to not label a previous customer as an extortionist and bitter. It may be laughable to him that his product doesn't perform yet he got to keep the customer's money, but potential customers aren't laughing they are wisely buying Robotows, Redline Sidewinders, Nose Draggers, etc, anything except a Minimax. I stopped by the Flyboy Accessories booth at Oshkosh this year - they are a new dealer for Minimax. I didn't get to say a word - there was someone there explaining "what a piece of garbage" that the Minimax is and how poorly he was treated by Greg. I walked away realizing that this was not just me but seems to be a common thing. Hopefully Flyboy Accessories will quickly figure out how carrying a product like that will only hurt their reputation.
  11. So this is what he needs: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Aspen-Avionics-EFD-1000-Pro-PFD-/281775279622?hash=item419b1d8e06&vxp=mtr
  12. The thread that refuses to die. Here's a great deal for $6995. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ASPEN-EFD-1000-PRO-PFD-/381367631961?&_trksid=p2056016.m2516.l5255
  13. Bob Minnis used to charge $6750
  14. Looks like maybe a prop strike with the prop overhaul and engine teardown 159 hours ago. Or maybe a gear up with the new paint. etc.
  15. Mooney now sells the 310HP STC for $4995 through the Mooney Service Centers. 310HP STC MOONEY.pdf
  16. It's the only reason I got it. I wonder if it only shows up on the 496. It doesn't show in the 796. Under weather s the page called "Nexrad" on your 496? Thanks
  17. It's bare metal, but I'm not sure I'd call it polished.
  18. Tony, I think you are referring to the Shadin, not the Hoskins.

  20. On the wing mounted lights once you have skinned up your hands changing these bulbs a few times, LED lights seem much more worth it. Also finding that your incandescent bulb is burned out when going into a dark field makes it worth it. On another airplane I had the Original Whelen Parmetheus which weren't quite bright enough. On my Ovation I now have the Teledyne Alphabeam which are great and highly recommended. I leave them on whenever the master is on.
  21. Try pulling the breaker to reset the memory
  22. Once it's determined that the gear isn't coming down I would figure that the airplane now belongs to the insurance company. I would only be concerned with two things at that point - keeping my airspeed on final a safe cushion above stall speed and getting out of there once on the ground..
  23. I activated the Skywatch boating package for $9.95 per month and on my 796 I get Metars, Cloud Tops, City Forecasts, but the Nexrad never shows up - it always says its is waiting for Nexrad. Am I doing something wrong? Are you getting Nexrad on yours? Thanks
  24. Delaware does not have Sales Tax on purchases and they have a low corporate (franchise) tax.
