  1. interestingly, when you're set up in cruise, let everything stabilize at WOT, 2500 RPM, lean cruise. Then note the groundspeed, the ETA, and the EST fuel remaining from the JPI. then pull the prop back to 2400. dont touch nothing else. Wait 5 minutes. The FF comes down .2 and the airspeed drops by 3KT. Then look at all of the info again. Ive noticed on a 2 hour flight, it adds 3-4 minutes and saves .5 gallon of fuel. So you spend $2.26 in extra airframe and component time (38$/hr) and save ~$2-$3 in fuel. A wash at best. If you really need the gas to make the leg non stop, it saves you that, which is real.
  2. There’s also a pig nose they call it
  3. I am starting up a repair shop at GAI soon. I can travel as well.
  4. Engine preheated warms the engine, and the RH is lower, but the total moisture holding capacity of the air is higher when it’s warmer. More water, more corrosion. blackmax. 500$. Plug and chug and it’s dry all the time. No I am not conpensated for saying this.
  5. Al Mooney’s plane from before that was the culver cadet. It had a cool mechanical device that prevented the throttle from being moved below about 1/3rd with the gear up. When the gear was lowered, the throttle could be pulled to idle. The first one, legend has it, was delivered to orangeburg SC. The factory delivery pilot had some problem with the throttle and couldn’t land. But he figured it out, he pulled the mixture on final. And landed gear up.
  6. I wonder, since the cam problem was solved 20 years ago, why there are so many owners on here wirh spalled lifters and cams.
  7. I’ve got a 2005 factory roller motor, the top end is gone but the case crank and all that is there. Would make a good foundation for a roller motor build, and the Only way to get one other than the factory.
  8. Since installing a JPi830 we have noticed that our 6 year old SLI mechanical is indeed within one needle width of correct. It’s not cheap, but it’s accurate.
  9. Never buy anything you haven’t seen, and preferably, flown.
  10. 2009 BMW 335i at VIR. I was braking early because the pedal wasn’t as firm as it should be. Turns out the rear brakes were completely worn out.
  11. 200k miles / 35mph is 5714hr. So easily a 2000hr preemptive replacement and rhats a Ford part Were it MB or BMW it would last twice that. The technology is here.
  12. but which is more reliable. you have two mags. PS the points themselves are ok, but theyre only 25hr from burning when the condenser wquits.
  13. so electronics die suddenly, and points half die, and have to be worked on regularly.
  14. Missile, have you driven or ridden in a Tesla car? Because seeing is believing, the build quality and features make my BMW 335i feel like a Chevy Citation. Theyre really just that much better. theyve put more innovation into their products than any other carmaker. Theyre literally a couple generations ahead. And the self-driving autopilot saves lives.
  15. an all-metal locknut on the bolt.
  16. they replace the impulse coupler spring and fly weights every 500hr?
  17. the 500hr recommended inspection applies to all mags. I dont think there are any AD's on the Bendix or Slick magnetos that have the non-rivet style impulse couplers.
  18. We flew the whole way from Houston to OSH a couple years ago at 1000’ AGL. . Any higher was headwinds and a second fuel stop which would have made us late, after 3 they closed the arrival. We got there at like 2:30
  19. From a regulation standpoint, the lubrication should be done, since it’s on the ICA for the speed brakes.
  20. I met Bob and nancy a few times at Oshkosh, as we talked a few times on the phone. He was a little like me, he was always tinkering or tweaking to get it just right, and just a bit more speed. He had the nicest panel, and the nicest paint. He worked and worked to get it just right. He flew all the time, and took big trips. That whole country trip last year was nice to watch. Aside from that, he was a really nice guy and I enjoyed being around him and Nancy. he will be sorely missed. Tailwinds, Bob.
  21. Where can we buy these weights
  22. The vacuum mechanical sped brakes are dead reliable. The electric sped brakes often need a cartridge rebuilt every couple years for 1000$. Also, the electric speed brake kit is over 7000$ as well. So your gonna spend 8500-10k on this.
  23. Yup. Check the vacuum level and the plumbing. If that’s ok Send for OH to aircraft quality instruments. Wichita ks. My AI has 600+ hours on it and still doing good.
  24. No. I’m not making that argument and either is he. Im skeptical of 9H nano claims. He said a bottle of Klasse also lass two years. It’s not a wax. It’s a sealant. He is thinking that this new stuff is repackaged sealant.
