  1. they are a standard 8/32 I recall from memory. If the wheel is stripped...an easier repair other than a helicoil is to drill out and tap to next size....ie 6/32 to 8/32,8/32 to 10/32..etc...this will need an a/p blessing who may insist you replace the wheel...goodluck..kp couch
  2. and the best back support for plexi is a piece of duct tape...prevents splintering..kpc
  3. oh ..and counter sinking aluminum skin is no problem...prob the easiest part of job...use a 45 degree countersink bit turning slowly with an adj speed hand or air drill..kpc
  4. for the drilling of plexi...get a unibit step drill...these will safely drill through with out risk of cracking...also plexi is much more brittle an easier to crack while cold...warm up your work space to at least 70 f...windows should really be a summer job ,IMO...the largest plexi job Ive done was a Bell 47 bubble....3k that you really didnt want to mistreat..kpc
  5. I think that Squirrel is a genius and should be president!!!..Fiddle with the knobs!!All that headachey aero physics and calculus that orange shot up...forgetit!!!..fiddling with knobs too difficult???..make it even simpler...fly a magic carpet..no knobs at all!!!I personally am gonna forget even the flyingcarpet and have an "out of body experience"tonight after too much mental stimulation!!!kp couch

  7. Afterwork hanger sessions are my most important therapy...a great stress reliever, and there is always friends nearby doing the same thing...the guy 2 hangers down rebuilding a 65 bonanza, across the row cowling off the FAA maintance guys 172...thats why I really dont mind doing my own annuals..I have a 30 year old collection of tools,a good compressor, good lighting,100000btu heater for winters and a giant swamp cooler for summers...at least 4 ap/ai close by for help...my home away from home .sinc kpc
  8. Yeah i noticed everyone apparently pooped out about last apr when the weather started gettin goo again...so who completed there IR???Did life interfere with your training? Are you planning on resuming???kp couch
  9. The Bravo will kick the hell out of 600 hp Baron both speed and fuel wise...kpc
  10. ez 40 with same engine when I bought it 25 years ago to move a 5300 lb baron...it thinks its loafing now..kpc
  11. For flight planning, flt. plan.com...is very accurate...Its Tas/fuel burns per alt. are very accurate without me having to input specifics and of course i love recieving clearances texted to my cell phone..kpc
  12. Bravos love high altitudes, that wing is loafing down low...i wish it had l/d polars like they plot for modern sailplanes...i think Al hit it totally by accident...as far as same nm/gal as a J..forget it...fuel burn is 20gal per hour at that speed ..so a bravo will scoot but at lousy fuel specifics...kpc
  13. Stacey Ellis signature is on the first page of my mooney Bravos acceptance test flight in dec 26 2000....small world...kpc
  14. PICS..show us PICS Mitch and Jolie!!!Makes me want to forget the roof and paint the Mooney!PS,first icing encounter of the season over Truckee Calif flying support for a horse race....kpc
  15. and from memory about 190kts true @ 13 to 15k,200kts true 15 to 17k,210ts true 17 to 19,215 kts @ 20k or so...kpc
  16. I have a graph of max. TAS vs altitude worked out by an MSC in colorado that showed realistic speeds for tLS/Bravos...its stops at 217kts @22k...I can dig it out of the a/c later today and post it..kpc
  17. whos the biggest ripoff...Garmin or aspen???
  18. hey Orofino...how come no cool balloons in pic???kpc
  19. Oh and if you own an older mooney (I think its over 25 years old)you can get an exemption from property taxes if you put your a/c on display (airport open houses, mooney ambassador etc)the required times per year...kpc
  20. State...california(taxifornia)state sales tax of 9 to almost 10% applies to all aircraft regardless of where purchased and brought into state within a year(than its called a usetax)there is an exemption based on aircraft used for business across statelines (called a interstate commerce rule). These exemptions are getting very difficult to get due to documentation requirements.County Taxes vary, but average 1% of assessed value or 500 on a 50K mooney.kpc
  21. Michael..hiring a cfi to prove accuracy of fuel guages would just work once...for him...on that one given day with those conditions of temp etc...and you could do it cheaper by hiring mechanic to drain all the fuel out of your tanks and than read the guages every 2 gal or so as he refilled the tank...still wouldnt help you..only time and experience will do that to the point that your own confidence will build enough to not mind burning down a tank of its useful fuel as normal operating procedure...something you probably have trouble imagining now just as physcians could never imagine a steerable needle 20 years ago...regards kp couch
  22. Well John interesting you should mention the early overhauls of continental powered acclaims....Our Bravos as you know got there name as the "B" mod tio 540 lycoming...an attempt to fix all the early topoverhauls being incurred at low time (300 - 400 hrs)for much the same reason...trying to get 225 kts at altitude and experiencing early valve guide wear....sur sounds famililar....with the oil bathed vave guides I bet our Bravos having had 10 years to get the bugs out will prove the more reliable...will see..sinc kp couch
  23. about 850 lbs..kpc
  24. And that 15 to 20 seconds is a lifetime!!!I believe the pilot missing all the fuel pressure fluctuations that occur well before any actual engine roughness or shutdown ,has other more serious problems such as whether he is still alive or not,LOLFor me its just good fuel manegement,I cant afford to restrict the range of my aircraft by keeping 45 min (15 gal for the Bravo)in a unused tank just because i am frightened of a sudden fuel selector malfunction. And as others who frequently manage longrange flight have stated...it really is a no brainer..the fuel needle fluctuates...dum de dum de dum..ho hum...reach down and switch the tank...believe me its not like having only 1 second to get the collective down for a heli autorotation after engine failure,...you really practically have all day!!!sinc kp couch
  25. Not a bad idea John...i have owned turbocharged a/c before ,but this is my first Mooney...my mission dictated high altitude capability and flight into known ice....I couldnt afford an acclaim...and at the time didnt find a suitable 232/252 etc.I have only owned her 2 years with its 3rd annual coming up.I do 95% of my own annuals under ap/ai supervision as i have for all my prior aircraft over the last 30 years or so.The bravo is labor intensive...plumbing to the turbo and heads have oil lins every where...I try to do a good inspection every oil change and have caught stuff that a regular shop might have missed in between annual inspections (chaffing oil lines, fuel lines from the fuel distributor spider, and a broken spring on the turbo waste gate to mention a few).No cylinder issues yet,but i only have 500 hrs on the engine after a factory overhaul due to the crank ad.sinc kp couch
