Good land (KGLD) KS to Denver by Mooney is right at an hour +/-. You might update your profile to state which airport in KS you plan on departing from on a regular basis. Are you looking for daily commute or weekly? I think a weekly commute would be more reasonable and practical and lets you plan for weather better while keeping the option to go home for an event during the week if necessary. Mooney with TKS are rare especially certified for flying in know icing conditions (FIKI). I would tread very lightly in those conditions even with FIKI but then I am a southern boy who very rarely has to worry about ice and I only have the barest minimum icing equipment on my plane. good luck and welcome aboard.

I've stated this before. All brands C, B, P and M etc. need to get together and make a factory or factories that make component parts, wings, control surfaces fuselage etc. The s factories can then specialize and make hundreds of parts instead of 10s of parts. One such factory could specialize in metal bending and riveting doing air-frame parts for all brand relaying heavily on robots to do most of the rivets. Another tubular steel parts. etc. Then pass the savings to the consumer to sell a larger quantity of planes. IMHO that is the only way the manufacturers can survive and thrive.

This is one answer. Half of everyone here who owns a Mooney or wants a Mooney go order a new Ultra. This would be the best thing for Mooney. However, after 10 years of production (SWAG) to satisfy all the orders then what? It would be a good run that would put a couple of thousand new air-frames in the system.

Yikes, cold thunder!
1964-M20E replied to Scott Dennstaedt, PhD's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Well I know I'm not unique but when I was in Idaho Falls last year for work I did experience thunder snow. Pretty freaky experience for a southern boy. -
Great Inspection Facility near Louisville, KY?
1964-M20E replied to DingyHarry's topic in General Mooney Talk
Sorry my former IA was near there but is now in Minneapolis. -
Yes future is looking bright, the economy is moving to the good side and unemployment is low. We here are protecting the current inventory of used planes either by maintaining the status quo of the aircraft or vastly improving them and everywhere in between. However, there are the ones that crash, get damaged by weather events and the horrific act of letting one sit and slowly rot to death. So the inventory of short and mid body planes is always decreasing. The drawback for GA is the lack of new planes being built by the certified manufacturers due to the high entry costs. If I were a business owner and the business could afford the cost of a new Mooney I'd have one. Naturally the business would be structured correctly to minimize taxes paid. I do like the idea of a M20X model and go to the experimental market with the mid body. Alternatively, Mooney could sell you a completed stripped mid size air-frame that you then put your data plate on along with all of your avionics engine interior etc. You then part out the remaining serviceable air-frame parts and destroy the main fuselage. or you could take a rotting hunk and make a airworthy plane from it. You would still technically own a 19XX model but it would have a brand new air-frame.

I've often said the same thing but make the F model with all the aerodynamic improvements and second door. Keep the instrument panel simple and let the purchase customize it the way he wants. Get away from the fully integrated G1000 model. Unfortunately it won't be under $200k maybe just south of $500k but still better than the current asking price of the a new Ultra which is very very nice.

N187CT - Building Our Dream 201
1964-M20E replied to Kyle Koukol's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Sweeeeeeeeeeet Good job. I would be afraid to know how much it cost. However, you did it right all at one time. Once the shakedown flights are done you can enjoy it for many years. -
I was 3 years old at that time. I had to wait another 18 years tog get my PPL.
-
Just make a right turn at Albuquerque That gives you a pretty good shot but no matter how you slice it you looking at about 11 hours of flying.
-
Welcome aboard Looked up your old plane. It was registered until about 6 years ago and last seen in Washington. It maybe sitting on a ramp somewhere waiting for you to return. However, that may not be the way you want to get back into flying but it would be interesting to get you old E model back. http://www.airport-data.com/aircraft/photo/000125557.html

That should work fine it is all I have in my plane. It is strange that the 900 can't measure vacuum.

Pretty neat. However, it still amazes me that with computers and phones today why they (FAA, gov, whomever) still insist on encrypting the messages. Just put them in plain English we haven't had teletypes in years. We have the text capability to send weather , notices etc. in plain English.

Realistic Maximum Value for 1976 M20F
1964-M20E replied to jerrodmonaghan's topic in General Mooney Talk
True but you get to enjoy what you have installed during that time. You will never have the latest and greatest because something new is always coming out. -
Realistic Maximum Value for 1976 M20F
1964-M20E replied to jerrodmonaghan's topic in General Mooney Talk
Well I'm not sure what you bought the plane for but if you spend $75k on the upgrades you are talking about you would have a $90k plane +/-. JMHO However, if you plan on keeping the plane for at least 5 years then do it if you keep the plane 10 years you are ahead of the game at that point. You will get to enjoy the plane configured the way you want it and the good looks to go along with it for that time. You will have to fly the value of your upgrades to make it worth while. -
By doing nothing you have achieved your goal and therefore you have done something.
-
If you set your goal to do nothing and you do nothing have you achieved your goal?

Initial Pirep of Aeromotors overhauled Dukes Fuel Pump.

They did mine a number of years ago ans still going strong. -
Hey wait a minute what happened? I was looking for Gene Kelly and Debby Reynolds in a new movie: "Flying in the Rain" Back on topic Rain no problem I have been in some pretty heavy rain with water leaking in because it will find a way in. Convective activity now that you need to watch as well as ice but down here in the flat lander south ice is less of an issue but not gone totally.

Very impressive. Talk about close formation flying. Real impressive but I believe mechanically and aerodynamically necessary is the counter rotating Merlin engines.

Welcome aboard There are many threads on bringing back a seldom used airplane that has sat quite a bit in the last few years. Search for these topics and go into the situation with your eyes open. Hope you will not spend a lot but expect and be prepared you will have to spend a lot. Know you will need to upgrade to ADSB out if it has not already been done. An M20- C model can be a good time builder and to work on you IR. Lack of an autopilot or GPS is not a show stopper to get your IR. Have a good pre purchase inspection, PPI, done focusing on air frame corrosion. I you have a good air frame the rest is just cosmetics and money. There are likely to be many small gremlins lurking in the plane that are waiting to get evicted but if you enjoy woring on things and can get an A&P (certified mechanic) to work with you you can lean a lot about your plane while keeping it flying. good luck and safe flying

Weight and Balance Calculator - Excel or Foreflight?
1964-M20E replied to byrdflyr's topic in General Mooney Talk
Here is the one I use. I adapted it form one I found years ago. I like Excel because I don't use fore flight. If I know I'm going to be close on a flight I do the W&B before hand and verify I'm within limits. M20F wtbal rev 0.zip -
Fuel Tank in Baggage Compartment
1964-M20E replied to Tcraft938's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I looked at a 62 or 63 C model years ago that had a tank in the baggage area. It was a nice C but highly modified , Ray Jay, new panel etc. -
YES!! I'm an engineer too.

I've flown my Mooney in and around Colorado and I'm a flat lander. Not to pry but why sell there is lots of pretty scenery to be seen and place to go leaving from Colorado?
