  1. I measured mine and PHT made it up for me.
  2. cool I'm in the first 5 minutes.
  3. Had a good time bugged out yesterday WX in new Orleans didn't look good for today. KLAL still IFR this morning getting out would be a pain. Found this cute girl hanging out by sunset grill with her human.
  4. All the material can be downloaded from the FAA site as well.
  5. Yes repair the offending cylinder or cylinders and move on. While the cylinder is off the A&P should look closely at your cam since it is visible at that time. The way these engines are designed you can do one or all cylinders at a time.
  6. Welcome aboard. How hard can it be? Not hard but time consuming and tedious. Keep in mind like others have said you will need an A&P / IA looking over your shoulder. You seem to have the mechanical skills needed to do the project. However, make sure the air frame itself is good i.e. no death sentence corrosion. Also the wings of a Mooney don't just come off like a Cessna. The Mooney wing is a one piece wing so transportation of a complete airplane on the ground is very challenging. Hopefully your warehouse is close to an airport. The order that I would proceed is : Airframe - repair, clean, polish paint get controls all working correctly Engine - overhaul / upgrade to 200HP IO360 etc. get firewall forward ready to fly and all engine controls, and accessories on engine Avionics - bare minimum at first to get it in the air and make sure everything else is working fine. (basic 6 pack flight instruments, basic factory engine gauges, 1 NAV/COM and transponder.) Plan you avionics to suit your mission of how you intend to use the plane and while laying out the panel anticipate possibly what someone else or you might want i.e. GPS, engine monitor etc. Good luck and keep us posted. Also read the many threads of others bringing planes back form the graveyard. Lean from their mistakes.
  7. Unfortunately the issues with Boeing 737 MAX may have a ripple effect to new AP for our planes.
  8. Cool Need your cell number so we can coordinate specific rides sort of like uber
  9. How about mount 3 under each wing of the Mooney?
  10. well I'm camping hopefully not too wet Friday and Saturday afternoon evenings. Right now they talking scattered TS so should not be too bad.
  11. my son bent one for me as well. You need one? I have one somewhere around here.
  12. Look at the maintenance manual it will show you where the tanks are. The location of the tanks does not change with the bladders. Second with full tanks just tap the covers on the bottom of the wing you will hear a solid thud where the fuel is and more hollow sound where the fuel tanks are not.
  13. I'm going to need a long red and white stick with a red tip on it when I fly there. I did not see it there but I was looking under "Flying in Directions and Info" I just figured that would be the logical place to fine the PDF version of the NOTAM. I did find another link I found brought me to the FAA site with the NOTAM but it was not easily printed. Actually it is a big conspiracy they added that link after I questioned where to find it.
  14. 2019NOTAMPublished219 Copy.pdf https://d2uowj5bno3yjz.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/19140650/2019NOTAMPublished219.pdf Here is the PDF as well as a link to the NOTAM. I had to ask it was hard to find.
  15. Check and clean every connection from the battery to the starter and back including the grounding connections. Then check the resistance across the master relay and the starter solenoid these should be zero ohms. You will need to disconnect the outgoing power cable from the master relay and starter relay while doing this so the starter does not try to engage even then remain clear of the prop while doing this. You will need to turn the master on and measure resistance across the master relay and then have someone engage the starter relay while measuring resistance across the starter solenoid. What starter is on the plane and how old is it?
  16. The biggest thing with this would be space in the cowling. I don't know where I would put it. The voltage regulators on each alternator need to play nice with each other. The B&C voltage regulator does really well automatically switching on the standby alternator when the bus voltage goes low. So most of the time the standby alternator is just sitting there not drawing any more power than needed to overcome the internal resistance to spinning the rotor inside the alternator.
  17. Welcome aboard. As others have said any Mooney mode C to J will fit you r mission fine. By the way you looking at about 3.5 to 4 hours nonstop to Destin or Panama City and depending on how much you lean out the engine and altitude you should have about 1 hour reserves when you get there. This is being very conservative. Now if you have 4 adults and bags you may need to leave some fuel behind in St Louis and make a stop along the way for some more.
  18. OK so there has been some talk about installing a backup alternator with people going full electronic instruments negating the need for a vacuum pump. I began looking into this since I am considering going with the AV030s to replace my AI and DG and eliminating the vacuum pump. B&C offers some systems STCd but not for the Mooney. I have not contacted them about it yet. I wonder if you could get field approvals for increased safety and it is a non required system? Anyone else out there besides B&C for standby alternator? https://bandc.com/product-category/alternators/certified-alternators/standby-alternators/
  19. I have never used it but I have heard there are some pretty nifty things you can do with it. However, my Ifly 740 will tack my flights if I want, I can go to Flight Aware to see my flights and I'm sure I could track my flights with my Avidyne IFD540 as well.
  20. That's the same strategy as the corner drug dealer give you a few hits to get you hooked. Maybe that gives you a little brake when getting checked out by their instructors. While I have my own F this is a serous question to the OP though. What is the policy for overnight and extend trips? Welcome aboard Zulu
  21. 3500 elevation is not a problem especially if you are use to it and live there. I was in Idaho for 9 months with my Mooney and at 5000' field elevation the plane did perform differently during the takeoff but I'm a sea-level, flat lander.
  22. Cam and lifters are in already the mix. This is what I would do JMHO crank have it checked for cracks and have it polished, possibly balanced depending on cost main bearings - any sign of wear replace them. Other than from cold starts there should be little wear on them. rod bearings same thing but they can be replaced without splitting the engine. Have the case inspected for cracks, and bore alignment checked. accessory case new oil pump gears all others checked for wear cylinders - hone and inspect valve guides, valves and seats for cracks or burning. (maybe send out for IRAN?) rings and pistons clean and check for wear. (if you really want to spend money have these balanced with the crank) mechanical fuel pump change with new due to location and difficulty in changing remaining accessories I would put back on and only IRAN those that are necessary such as mags. put it all back together control cables are much easier to do now with the engine is off than later. Since you are in Canada how close are you to your mandatory prop overhaul? Unfortunately it adds up quickly.
  23. What year is your E? If I remember reading correctly there was a point in the manufacture of the M20 where the tail was actually twisted because of we on the jig used during fabrication. It is not noticeable when looking at one plane but if you looks a a number of them lined up is it visible. This may have seem effect on the rigging. Like Turbo said you have to play with it. Years ago my mechanic and I rigged my E according to the manual and it flew well.
  24. stick with the 30 for now it is a good AP. Sure it doesn't give you vertical guidance but with the lateral guidance many of your issues are taken care of. Besides, even with a good AP you still want to practice and hand fly the plane. I have flown approaches with the 30 and it works fine while I control the decent.
