  1. They were there and they had the wing tips but I did not inquire as to the price.
  2. You might try these guys they donated one to the Mooney Summit for a door prize. Nav Strobe lighting - Par 36 LED landing light
  3. Heading west along the gulf coast I just waited to pick up flight following with Eglin after Tyndall said they were too busy. Which I found strange at the time because they were not talking much. I did get 3 different transponder squawk codes before I reached Destin though. Going southeast from KECP Tyndall controls that whole sector from just west of KECP to Apalachee Bay around TERES then you usually turned over to Tallahassee approach. Going north form KECP I believe it is Carins Approach that controls that sector. Finally going west you have Eglin. If you head due south you will have to pick up Cuba in a few hours but you will start out with Jacksonville. Given some of the airspace around KECP you are somewhat limited but here are some suggestions. Going north: KECP to CUGAR thence .... (note CUGAR is a GPS waypoint) Going north east: KECP to MAI thence .... Going West along the gulf coast: KECP to PHIPS, DESTN thence... Going to central and south FL: KECP to TERES thence...
  4. Closest would be KBTR. I've only been there a few times myself as close as it is. It is not that terribly far from the stadium. Using a ab or uber probably is the best way to get around once there. I've never been to a Tigers game but I imagine parking and traffic are not pleasant. KREG Gonzales would be a pretty straight shot on I10 west into baton Rouge but you will need a car and fight the I10 traffic which can get pretty long on I10 west into BR. There is someone here that lives in BR but I do not remember who.
  5. no and even if you find it in the plane and the hangar fairies do their magic it will regenerate in about 2 months and be worse than before. The best thing you can do is feed a little each day and then it will not be so hungry in the future and demand large sums of cash.
  6. on my calendar
  7. Glad it was just a bruised knee. As to why pull the prop through I was told a similar tale that it loosened things up for the starter. Maybe an OWT. I still do it make sure the engine will turn over if not then I'm not going l flying that day and no use in finishing the pre flight and dragging the plane outside.
  8. Here is the plane that could not catch me.
  9. You need to get a polarizing filter that will help to remove the glare form the windows. I'll be sending you some of Alan's plane. Oh and I was holding back on the Mooney and y'all still could not keep up with in the Bonanza.
  10. Musings from the Summit

  16. He's going in the wrong direction unless he plans on circling the world to get to FL.
  17. Yes 2 gallons per person. Chances are you will not need it but it's good practice.
  18. Yes a lot of moisture in the area just sitting around waiting to fire up some rain showers. Hopefully tomorrow morning it will be relatively calm coming form New Orleans. Looks like if you stay closer to the cost you might do better.
  19. Hey that could be a new action adventure movie. "SWARM OF MOONEYS" Speed!! Adventure!! Action!! Exotic locations!! Terror for Cirrus Owners!! 20. I'm a flat lander as well and no expert but I did fly though those areas once and I stayed somewhere but I can't remember. Try adding DDY and HVE to your route and then pick your way between the peaks. You should be able to say between 100 and 110 and keep 2500AGL.
  21. That is when you get out the propane torch and gently warm the cap to melt the ice.
  22. Well if you make it down south let me know I'll play tour guide for you in new Orleans. So you are going to fly the Mooney here spend some time return home on a commercial flight and the come back to fly it home again? WOW sounds interesting
  23. The dog houses were used up until about 66 I believe but I'm not certain. MY 67F has the baffles. I'm not sure what the reasoning was regarding the dog house versus plenum. Plenum is a lower parts count and easier to remove and install.
  24. You say you live in an airpark. Get to know other airplane owners and their mechanic(s). Finish getting you PPL and fly a while and decide what your mission is with a plane of your own i.e long cross country to travel or short fun hops around the patch. Then look for the plane that fits that mission. Even though you are very mechanically inclined no matter how you slice it, dollar wise, to bring a plane back from years of neglect will almost always cost more than one already flying in good condition. That being said, there are plenty of short body, C & E, models from the mid 1960s to the mid 1970s that can be had in the $30 to $60k range depending on what overall condition and what avionics are in the plane. Then use your skills and knowledge working with an A&P and make the plane a little better each year. When talking with the mechanics talk about you ideas and you goals get the mechanic on board before you find a plane and buy it. However, I do very much applaud those here and others who will take a plane and bring it back for the brink of death (deny the grim reaper) and make it fly again. At the air park do you have an hangar or space for one? You will need a place to work on it and store it. While outside will suffice, indoors is much better for everyone involved.
  25. Slightly different than accommodations. We have registration open at the Origin 4-6pm on Friday. Has any thought been given to having the registration material at the airport Friday at least during lunch time? I'd be willing to help out with this.
