  1. Well it appears you can teach an old dog, new tricks. At 72 I just got my commercial (yesterday) in my J. Not going to do anything with it (unless that position at Uzbekistan Air, opens up), but I wanted to keep my brain housing group sparking. This isn’t about me though; I just wanted to thank all who posted commercial info on the forum. As you know the info out there is geared to Piper and Cessna. With your help I got entry speeds, power settings, etc., geared to a Mooney. We all know this is a great resource for all things Mooney, thanks again for the help.
  2. Scrubbing Bubbles for the belly. Don't tell the wife you know how to use it, though!
  3. Glad your thinking of flying, been there done that, 5 times, (in different airplanes) and will do it again. Don't discount the southern route, further south through El Paso, Tucson, then up thru Blythe, 29 Palms (watch the jarheads) then into Fox. Good Mexican & Tex Mex food along the way. I was based in Flabob in the Inland Empire, but quite a few airport (as some have stated in the upper desert), plus Apple Valley, Southern CA Logistical (used to be George AFB), etc.. Suggest on the return, Northern Ca (again based at CCR), then Reno, through Salt Lake, etc., old air mail route. Take your time allow yourself to enjoy every flight, it is well worth every minute.
  4. This worked for the Marines. Watch your paint thought!!!
  5. Thanks, Just got both 275's installed and opted for the switch (below stormscope). So far so good, have only had a hour since install so your video helps quite a bit. Going to go out after the weekend when things will be a bit more quiet.
  6. Getting the GI 275 AI and GI 275 HSI + Autopilot interface installed in June. It to replace the vacuum driven AI, a King KCS55 system and delete the vacuum pump and interface with a KAP150. Interesting about the switch for the GPSS, have to confirm with the shop. All total, so far, $14,3
  7. Took two of the granddaughters to lunch yesterday at KGED. They fell asleep due to my smooth flying. Of course the hamburgers had nothing to do with it.
  8. Does anyone have the length of Throttle Cable part # 660226-001? Annual coming up and would like to order one without taking it out and sending it in, trying to avoid down time.
  9. I have "heard" that a Q-Tip sprayed with contact cleaner inserted into the jack can clean them. I have also "heard" that you should let them thoroughly dry before use.
  10. I'll send pictures from the "other side."
  11. To answer where I have my EI 30P box placed: Above Pilots side rudder pedals.
  12. Sorry for the delay in getting back. Mounted the EI box above the pilot side rudder pedals. Going to the plane today or tomorrow will post pictures.
  13. I went with the CGR30P, used sensors from a Insight G-3. Installed two years ago with no problems, any questions during installation were answered promptly, good customer support .
  14. John, My pleasure, glad it worked out.
  15. Look at: KC Headsets Terry Gerber www.KCHeadsets.com He repaired two Lightspeed QFR XCc's, so old ones for me. Quick, easy and reasonable.
  16. Byron, Always have gotten good service and fair pricing from Bevan Aviation. https://bevanaviation.com/ Sent a KX-155 and a KAP150 (28V) and will soon send a 165.
  17. Don't mean to go off topic, but.... When you do, make sure you go to the Beaulieu Autojumble (they have aviation memorabilia, some parts etc.) also. I believe it is on the weekend before Goodwood. Former P-47 field and Special Operations Executive training base(s) during WWII. They also have a Top Gear museum. As an aside Goodwood was also a RAF field.
  18. As an old guy (72 by SNF), was debating on SNF this year. My brother and I are on a three year schedule; 1 at SNF, 2 at Oshkosh, 3 at Goodwood Revival & Beaulieu Autojumble. This COVID stuff set us back from SNF last year. So looks like all three are on, so hope to meet some of this august group at SNF.
  19. Any chance of getting a few more photos? Top and closer side views would be great. Thanks
  20. Second Lance Link, again to repeat "Yes, Virginia, you can paint chrome!"
  21. As above, same as what I do, except for setting it on a Mechanic's Roller Seat from the Aviation Supply House, Harbor Freight. Hey gents, and I can still do it at 71, of course with a few choice words thrown in.
  22. Patrick, Thanks for the update! Appreciate it.
  23. Glad all worked out with Lee. He is a great asset to have. I was at HWY on Sunday and generally sometime during the week to. Maybe we will cross paths, take care.
  24. Second on the J model app. Thanks,
  25. Done!
