  1. I'm going to a small border town in Canada in a couple weeks. I've never crossed the border, filed eAPIS or dealt with customs. I can land on the U.S. side and drive 45 minutes to my destination or cross the border and land much closer. Is filing, dealing with customs worth saving the 45 minutes drive? I know there are sites on how to do this but I'm more interested on first hand accounts of it's difficulty/ time it requires to file and deal with customs.
  2. From what I've read they are supposed to last about 3x longer than the massives.

  4. Blackstone gives it to you in plain English with a personalized paragraph or so of what is going on with your engine. I like that aspect of their service.
  5. Sooooo, who all is going? I'll be there, can't wait!
  6. I switched to all fine wires last week since my old champion massives we're pushing 800 hours and looked like footballs. Can't wait to see how the new ones run LOP!
  7. I wouldn't call it infant mortality since the OH was done in 09'. It's not a lot of hours but a lot can happen to an engine and it's accessories over 5 years, even at sub 500 hours. There's a reason why warranties are based on hours as well as years. Hopefully the shop will be of assistance but if not I don't think trashing them on an open forum is the way to go, especially since the engine is officially out of warranty. The TBO on my io-360 is 2000 hours or 12 years. Many people don't realize the yearly limit and just look at the hours on an overhaul. That said I'm a big believer in flying well past TBO, hours or years, as long as the engine is showing healthy readings. Condolences go out to the OP, mechanical issues sure are frustrating. Good job on getting down safely!
  8. I've dealt with both Maxwell and Lasar. Both are top notch, you can't go wrong with either.
  9. I had the same issue and replaced it with a SIRS. Love it, great product.
  10. Well done! I'm a couple hours shy of hitting 1000 hours in my J. Looking forward to it.
  11. My plane and I are the same age.
  12. Speaking of fine wires, that's what I'm thinking about going with as my massives are to the point of being shot. From what I understand they last a lot longer and will run LOP better which should increase efficiency. Any comparisons from those that have used both would be appreciated.
  13. Great! Thanks for the info!
  14. What size socket do I need to remove a plug from an IO 360? I seem to have lost my socket and need to pull a plug that went bad over the weekend. Are these sockets interchangeable with auto plug sockets from the big box auto part stores? Thx,
  15. Great idea! He's a couple pictures of my 3 year old, who loves all things airplanes, and I. My wife and 3 month old daughter will be flying down in the Mooney as well. We already had a trip planned to the area for the end of October so I'm pumped about the Summit being at the same time.
  16. I'm going to be in that area at the end of October and would like to meet up. What are the dates, itinerary, etc? Will some info be posted here on MS soon with the details? On a side note how is the weather in the panhandle that time of year? I've always been down May-June.
  17. Yes you can, I've done it several times.
  18. It panned out...... Great experience, another coming soon!
  19. FYI the Dalhart restaurant is a great stop. The building is brand spanking new and both times we stopped in the place was filled to capacity. It's a small town and the locals all apparently eat there regularly and watch planes come in and out. It's active with crop dusters as well. The food was excellence and fuel was reasonable. Thanks for the heads up on Dalhart, Michael (Rustler) P.S. The only negative is the terrible smell from the cattle feed lots.
  20. +1 for the Nulites. Great product
  21. I'm doing my first Angel Flight this week. Good luck Peter!
  22. I've had my J since 08' with close to 1200 hours on her in that time as well as an overhaul around 600 hours ago. My #4 CHT has ran about 30-40 low before and after the OH from day one so I wouldn't be that worried about it. I've got the EDM 730
