Anyone ever fly into KDHT or KCAO?
The-sky-captain replied to Brian Scranton's topic in General Mooney Talk
KDHT has a fantastic FBO restaurant. I've landed there a couple times on trips to Durango and it gets ripe in the heat due to the stockyards. -
Papa X-Ray is officially sold. I flew her down to Don Maxwell yesterday, she passed with flying colors, and the new owner is flying her to N. Carolina today. He's already got a hangar and is starting his IFR soon so she will continue flying lots of hours. I put around 1100 great hours in the left seat. Adios girl, blue skies!

Ferry pilot wanted for new Mooney owner.
The-sky-captain replied to The-sky-captain's topic in General Mooney Talk
Thanks Bob! -
Looks like I have my plane sold to a gentleman in N. Carolina at KMWK. We will be getting a pre-buy with Don Maxwell on Thursday and if all goes well he will be taking PX back on Friday. Is there anybody on the board, preferable in the Longview, Tx or Charlotte, NC area that would want to fly with the owner? He doesn't have his complex endorsement yet. I'll also check with Don and if all else fails I can fly him back and catch a tube home. Thanks.

Looking for PIREP on Wet-Wingologist East
The-sky-captain replied to FLYFST's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
WetWingologists sealed my tanks 12 years ago and they are still leak free. -
Don Maxwell (KGGG) is a top notch MSC as many here can attest to. Locally I use Twelvestone Aviation (KASG), owned by John Gearheart, who is honest and good at what he does although not a MSC he maintains several Mooneys. I've used Don for several annuals and John for the others as well as small items that pop up throughout the year.

As mentioned Durango La Plata is easy in and easy out. I was there last August and departed at gross weight. No issues as the runway is long and the terrain is flat if departing to the south.

Well done. You seem to stay a couple hours ahead of me! I remember your post on hour 1000 or 1100 and I was lagging just behind at that point too. I should hit 1200 next month.

I was in OKC a couple weeks ago and paid $3.05 at Sundance (KHSD). That's the cheapest I've seen since 2008.

Plus 1 for Lulu's. The wife and I took the Mooney down to Gulf Shores for our 6th anniversary. Cool area and nice little airport.

That's how the good Lord created her.

Any tips for performing Oil change?
The-sky-captain replied to Greg252AY's topic in General Mooney Talk
I agree with the above comment regarding the Form a Funnel. I also use it to drain the oil from the quick drain after shutdown and use it while checking the suction screen. -
Hey guys and gals, Due to a growing family I've decided to put my J up for sale. I love the old girl and never thought we would part ways but all good things must come to an end. It's a great machine and well maintained with several annuals and visits to D Maxwell in the logs. 201PX has flown on average about 150 hours per year with a max one year of around 220 hours and a TT of around 1100 hours since I purchased her October of 08' . The engine was overhauled by Mena Aircraft Engines in December 2010 and has proven a solid performer in the 690 hours I've put on her since. It's a buy and fly plane. All of the Mooney "gotcha's" are in good shape...SB 208 complied with, tanks are leak free, gear pucks are in great shape and the airframe is corrosion free. Feel free to PM me or contact me through email. bodiebell@aoldotcom See specs below... $89,900 Approx 690 SMOH. Choices for a forced landing
The-sky-captain replied to Cyril Gibb's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
I know two local guys that have survived tree top landings. One was at night and he just plain ole lucked out, hit a soft tree and climbed down the trunk with nary a scratch. Dumba$$ ran out of gas so go figure. The dumb ones always survive. The other guy, a passenger, had significient injuries and was the only survivor. -
Check the suction screen too. That's where the big, scary metal chunks will be.

how do you tell what kind of plane you have?
The-sky-captain replied to carl's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I was allllllllmost a C Ranger owner back in 08'. Instead, the plane ran out of fuel and crashed on short final at my home airport while being flown in for a prebuy by a ferry pilot provided by the seller. I ended up with a J for the same cost. Looking back the C was crazy overpriced. -
Maxwell is top notch, I've used him for several annuals and corrosion x spraying. Give Dugosh a shot too. I believe they are around San Antonio.
-
I use a different colored highlighter to signify the type of flight. Personal, business, Angel Flight etc.
-
Owned my J since late 08' and have put 1000 of my 1200 hours in it. It's comfortable, like an old pair of jeans. It's nice knowing where all of the knobs, buttons and switches are without looking and knowing what's normal and what's not. I've been debating getting a larger plane and am dreading the process if I go through with it. I like knowing my aircraft like I do.

I bought it and was only able to use it once, in New Orleans, over the course of around 200 hours flown that year. I made my money back but was disappointed it wasn't available at more places I fly into.

Altimeter overhaul/replacement
The-sky-captain replied to helitim's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
A while back my DG did the same thing and after trouble shooting it was just a loose Allen screw that holds the knob to the bar.
