  1. I'd probably go back to the classic style if my TLS style paint job goes bad in the future. The only issue I'd have with it is the ability to see ice on the wings. My current scheme has 30" or so of hunter green paint on the wing roots making ice easy to spot.
  2. It's bittersweet to go back and read old posts on gas prices and other conversation pieces. Gas at my home AP is now $6.30 but i fill up nearby for $4.75. My in laws are a current destination an hour away and have cheap fuel as well. Every bit helps. LOP for me now too for many of my trips.
  3. I like the disclaimer at the bottom of this flyer.
  4. Dave, Yup, it is sheared in half. I spoke with Don Maxwell and he's tracking down the part for me. He also mentioned that I could probably get it welded... We'll see. Thanks again for the help.
  5. Dave, Thanks for the info. Was it something you were able to do or did you get a mechanic involved?
  6. On departure today from Alexandria LA my door popped open. I returned to the airport and found out that the pin on the side of the door would not engage at all. The top latch mechanism still worked so I made the 2.5 hr flight back home with a small gap on the side with the top sealed tight (it was COLD). I'm going to take off the side panel tmrrw, but any ideas on what needs to be done? The handle still moves freely but I can feel a lot of slop inside the panel. It almost feels like a nut or something came unscrewed causing the pin not to slide back and forth. Good timing though since I am removing the panels for restoration this week anyway.
  7. If you end up having to rent from an FBO give Supermarine at KLIT (Little Rock) a call. They are much cheaper on services than Central Flying. That being said Central has a HUGE amount of hangar space and may be able to work a deal. FWIW over Christmas Supermarine put me up for 3 nights at no charge.
  8. Good write up... http://www.avweb.com/news/safety/cockpit_smoke_hoods_197712-1.html
  9. Would love to give it a try
  10. I've stuffed 4 people and 2 snowboards in my J with the 2 boards resting over the rear seat and protruding up between the two rear passengers. I have only been able to carry one 29er MTB (removed both tires and seatpost) so far but have been looking at some carrying cases that may allow for two. Aviatoreb- any pointers on cases for carrying multiple bikes? Do you remove the rear seat?
  11. I enjoyed the last fly-in he hosted. His presentation was funny and informative. I was there a couple weeks ago and would definitely be up for making the fly-in in June. Hope it works out.
  12. I keep meaning to buy Sporty's VFR Planning Chart and put in colored thumbtacks for where I've been and where I still want to go. That way the wife & I won't have to huddle over a computer to enjoy the electronic, on-line planner. Besides, my monitor is much smaller than the map.
  13. Easy enough, thanks RJ.
  14. I want to replace all of the screws and cup washers on the plastic panels as well. Do any of my fellow Mooney brethren have the specs on what sizes are needed and where I can purchase them?
  15. I painted them back in 09' and they turned out great. The problem is that I rode in a buddy's Bo the other day and he has the panels covered which looks awesome. Michael (Rustler) here on Mooneyspace covered his several years ago as well with great results. The cost is nominal at $80 per yard of material, $50 per our on wrapping labor, estimated at 4 hours, and $180 for the burn documents. I'm using a local auto interior shop that does a lot of planes in the area.
  16. I can't get this link to work...
  17. Angel Fire was ranked as one of AOPA's toughest airports a few years ago. High altitude, prevalent strong cross winds and rising terrain. I've been tempted to go there a few times because of the close vicinity of the ski slopes but the winds have always been nasty.
  18. Not sure I would want to apply it myself, seems like that would be a little above my pay grade. What other options are out there besides ultra leather?
  19. Try 19 squared. It gives me around 5 gph but like Hank said it feels a little weird.
  20. What's an approx cost to cover the Royalite side panels and headliner in a 201? I'm looking at using ultraleather or something comparable. I recall someone mentioning a cost of around 850$ with them removing and reinstalling the panels. I removed and painted the panels about 4 years ago so I think I would be up to installing them myself if the cost break was big enough.
  21. Don is the man... I'm bringing my plane down to Longview next week for annual.
  22. Any locals have a lead on a hanger with electricity for a two night stay? The dates are this coming weekend Feb 22/23. If not I'll contact the FBO and see what they have avaliable.
  23. My 2 year old has been flying for a little over a year now and has over 50 hours logged, with the longest flight being 3.5 hours. He generally sleeps the entire time. For the times he is awake we give him books, toys and snacks to entertain him. He loves flying and it's much easier on us to fly with him vs taking 3-4x as long in a car.
