  1. I like it! I was in that IFR mess for close to two hours this past weekend on a trip to Colorado Springs and back. I'm ready for some sunshine
  2. Carusoam, I edited my time zone in my profile and it looks like the correct times are posting now... Enough of that, anybody else have any input on the OP??
  3. Hey Jim, I haven't paid much attention to the speed loss but I'd say it's around 5-7 KTAS. With a descent tailwind on a recent flight I was up in the low 20's nmpg but am averaging about what you are. I'm with you on my EGT temps I was just curious if other pilots are seeing the same info on their engine monitors. I make a lot of 150 NM trips to Little Rock for business and running LOP is shaving about $40 per round trip. I'll take that any day of the week over the extra few KTS. Carusoam- it's a time bug...
  4. I've been messing around with running LOP and like the results as far as GPH (8.5 at 7-8k) and CHT temps ( -30 degrees) go. My question is regarding my EGT's. While running 100 degrees ROP the highest and lowest are on average only 10 degrees apart. LOP they are 80-90 degrees apart and overall about 75-100 degrees hotter with the hottest being in the mid to high 1400's. Is this consistent with running LOP vs ROP? Engine runs smooth, although it did feel a little weird pull back so much the first few times.
  5. Craig, The new site looks great! I can post on my iPad now, unlike before.
  6. Quote: OR75 no mess at the oil drain is not an issue but at the spin on filter it is. i need to look into that new pig funnel. Definitely deviating from OP but I am impressed you also access the suction screen. How do you safety wire it back !!
  7. Quote: OR75 if you find a trick for a no mess oil change let me know !!! My recommendation is to have plenty of paper towels with you and to cover the front tire so it won't get oil all over ...
  8. I have new baffle seals that were custom cut and installed by myself about three years ago. All has been well during that time period until about a month ago when they started sporatically turning over backwards under the cowling during flight. We have had extreme heat here in Arkansas which makes me wonder if they are more pliable which is causing them to bend over when the airflow hits them. They have done this on about half of my flights over the last few weeks... One thing to note is that I had them do this same thing about two years ago for a flight or two but I can't remember the temps/time of year it happened. Surprisingly only one of my flights had any issues with high CHT's and that was with 106 ground temps. Have any of you experienced this?
  9. Keith- Take a look at the prop seals. I had the same oil film issue several years ago and it turned out my seals were leaking. At the time I had over 1100 hours on the prop and ended up overhauling it at Foster's in Oklahoma.
  10. Parker- Are you still happy with the SIRS? My original compass sprung a leak last week enroute from FL to LA and I'm in the process of ordering the SIRS Navigator Overhead Compass. Were you able to mount to the center post using the adjustable bracket sent with the unit? Quote: Parker_Woodruff Never updated this thread... I went with the SIRS compass and like it a lot. Thanks to those that suggested it, it is a really nice unit.
  11. Brandon- I fly into Denver several times a year and have always used FTG. It's on the east side of Denver and located just off of I-70. Cheapest fuel in the area, nice, new FBO, nowhere near as congested as APA and wide open approaches and departures on all ends.
  12. RIP Patrick, this is so sad. Like many of you I exchanged PM's with him and found him a delight to deal with. My condolences to his family and close friends.
  13. Before my engine OH I was changing it every 25 hours because it was getting nasty quick. It was a PITB due to the fact that I fly a lot and I was cracking the cowl every 6 weeks or so as I change the oil myself. Now that the engine doesnt burn much and the oil stays nice and clean I change it every 50 hours. Im actually headed out today to do it. It's been a little under 3 months since the last oil change so I guess the 3 month rule/ 50 hours is where I'm at. FYI for you do it yourselfer's try the New Pig Funnel for draining the filter and screen. Its a great form- a- funnel...
  14. I use to dump it, but at $6.00/gal it like throwing quaters into the trash. Just kidding, I still dump it.
  15. Does anybody know if the subaru boxer diesel has had any use in the experimental department. It would seem the boxer configuration would be ideal.
  16. I've spoke with Bill many times on the phone. I'm sure he would like to talk with you about your F model. He's probably the 1st person to fly it. He seemed to know my plane by heart. It's almost like every mooney is a child that was born to him.
  17. I think it's a legit question considering that there are pilots that probably hop in their plane going cross country and they don't make any plan other than pushing a go direct button on their GPS.
  18. Good recommendations guys, I appreciate it. I'm sure I'll have a lot of time to kill being that I get pretty antsy after lounging on the beach after a few days.
  19. Good recommendations guys, I appreciate it. I'm sure I'll have a lot of time to kill being that I get pretty antsy after lounging on the beach after a few days. Charley, I'll be down to SUZ on Friday and again on Monday for work so I won't have much time. Next time I'm down over a weekend I'll look you up. Thanks again for hooking me up with a hanger on that stormy weekend a while back.
  20. I'll be flying into Destin twice in the upcoming months with my wife and baby and staying a week each time. Are there any nice fly in destinations close by, say 30 minutes or so, that you locals would recommend? Secondly, I'll be there in early to mid May and early July so if any Mooneyspacers are around that area and want to stop by and chat or grab lunch hit me up on my email or via PM. Other than Gulf Shores, AL I have not flown into this part of the country and am looking forward to the new scenery.
  21. Maxwell said it's a 20 minute process of inspecting it. I'm getting it done when I bring the plane down for some Corrosion X.
  22. Quote: pjsny78 I have to go there for rigging and maybe an oil change. I had to bring the Mooney to Maxwell a couple of months ago for a gear issue and while there Don mentioned that I had a couple of issues with the rigging. Once corrected I picked up 5-6 knots, I highly recommend it.
  23. Charley- Yes, I hitched a ride back on Monday from a student pilot doing his x-country with my old IFR instructor. Fixed gear Cessna Cardinal= SLOW pjsny- I plan on going to pick her up next week sometime and I would be happy to buy ya lunch. There are several nice places to eat in Longview close to the airport. Seems kinda far from Long Beach but if you are up for it, I'm in. Just waiting on a call saying it's ready. I'm going to state the obvious now... Don Maxwell is the real deal. While waiting on my ride I got to hang out with the man and pick his brain for several hours. He's 100% customer service oriented and knows these planes inside and out. He's the type of guy you feel very comfortable with, and kind of honored, leaving your plane in his care. This is the first annual I've had him do on my plane in the four years I've owned it, although I have tried to get it to him earlier. Due to getting my engine OH last year and a starter issue the year before I just let the local mech do it. Everything seems to be checking out fine which is a relief due to the stories that I've heard of first annuals at MSC's. It will be a great feeling to have a clean bill of health signed off by Dr. Don.
