  1. I noticed that planes with a vacuum ADI (IFR certified) do not have (or require) a backup ADI like those with the Aspen or Gamin ADI. Is a vacuum ADI more reliable? José
  2. The 238 mph is the relative velocity 160mph + 78mph = 238mph. Although drones usually fly at a much lower speed than 78mph. Assuming a relative velocity of 200mph the total Energy impact would be 30% less, enough to scrape the paint As E=1/2mv^2 shows mass is also a significant factor. Meteorite impact at 20 times the speed of sound on a manned space vehicle exposed for 9 months trip to Mars is of major concern. It would make a clean hole on the spacecraft and occupants. José

  4. I have this one and found it very reliable and practical José
  5. The impact location shown on the video would impair the aileron control rod. If the impact is deep enough electrical wires in the wing could shorten and spark a fuel tank fire. Drones are smaller than planes thus harder to see them. On the other hand drones fly at lower speeds so any encounter with them would be in front. Try to fly high to avoid them. José
  6. That is what I like about the KMA 24 is all switches, it always works. 36 years old and never failed. José
  7. It is a connector problem on the probe lead. try cleaning the contacts. José
  8. I think " Line up and Hold" would be more specific. SInce "wait" (for what?) could imply takeoff after an airplane crossing the runway passed. José
  9. Check the GNS 530 antenna cable shield connection to ground at both ends. An improperly attached shield to the connectors will invite panel noise. José
  10. It is not unusual to need to readjust the squelch setting on a new installation. José Page 5-16 500W Series Installation Manual Rev. G 190-00357-02 5.3.10 COM SETUP Page (GNS 530W Only) Select the COM SETUP page (see Figure 5-13). These values are set at the factory and seldom require calibration. Older versions of software will not show all choices. FREQ Selects a VHF communication frequency. For purposes of setting the squelch and sidetone levels, only the frequencies 118.000, 127.000, and 136.975 MHz can be used. SPACING Selection Description 25.0 kHz Selects traditional 25 kilohertz spacing (760 channel). 8.33 kHz Selects 8.33 kilohertz channel spacing, which is required in some areas of the world
  11. It is interesting to note that Vacuum gyros do not require attitude backups like the Aspen and Garmin. I guess the Turn Coordinator and other steam gauges can serve as backup for vacuum gyros. José
  12. When replaced the mounts I added an extra washer on the bottom mounts to raise the engine pitch so it will not sag down after ten years. So far no prop sagging. José

  14. That Ultra better has gold funnel relief tube. José
  15. Just to insure no surprises due to fatigue, like cylinders cracks or head separation. Got new cylinders, happy and confident for the next 2,000 hrs. José
  16. In fear of getting stranded at a remote location because lost my keys. I keep a set of keys hidden in the plane so I can fly home if I loose them. José
  17. 1. Fuel burn 9 to 10 GPH in cruise for 150+ kts. Oil burn 1qt./7hr ( longer on new oil) 2. Nothing major, but replacing the gear rubber donuts. Overhauled the engine at 2,000 hrs. compressions were in the 70s José
  18. On what field? Name and telephone Number?
  19. Safer on a Mooney than a on a twin jet José
  20. Wonder if it encountered sudden tail winds. Always check your ground speed on short final. José
  21. Even with traditional headsets is not a problem using the mask. The only limitation I found with the mask vs cannula is for drinking and eating on long flights. Masks also makes you smell the food in your mouth. José
  22. The gap shown on the picture is about right. A fully closed cowl flap will increase the temps in cruise and climb. José
  23. Try soaking the transducer with carburetor cleaner. It works very well. José
  24. Sharks repellants https://www.lifehacker.com.au/2016/01/do-shark-repellents-actually-work/ I use WD-40 José
