  1. The best way I have heard to understand this is that one person can LOG the flight time when he/she is doing the flying while another person is ACTING as PIC for the flight. Both get to put the time in their log books.
  2. all your bottom plugs look oil soaked. One qt/4 hours is high but not serious. A little effort can isolate the excessive leakage with compression testing. Valves vs rings and which cylinders are better/worse than others. LOP is not going to show much change in only 100 hrs or so. It is a long term benefit. The appearance of your tail pipe is pretty normal for LOP operations. Talk with your mechanic about the lead fouling, sometimes a slightly hotter plug or a change to the cruise settings will help reduce it. It will never be completely eliminated.
  3. The absolute best advice you can get here is to talk with your Aspen dealer that will do the install and he will tell you what (if any) documentation is needed and if HE will provide it. Best of luck.
  4. The S-Tec 55x has a trim fuse mounted on the board inside the computer. Is this the component that failed ? This is a well known (common) issue with the 55x
  5. Check your service manual. There is a calibration procedure. Basically you run the trim full limit and adjust the potentiometer on the module. There is a hole in the case of the indicator behind the panel.
  6. This is what the Continental reps claim is the best method for hot starts............... 1. Don't touch the power leave it where it was at shut down 2. Mixture - full rich 3. Start. The engine will fire in just a couple of rotations, 4. IF the mechanical fuel pump does not keep the engine running, add Low boost pump 5. When engine is assured to keep running turn off Low boost pump. (should only be a few seconds. ) Always works. This method reduces the risk of flooding, high RPM and long cranking time.
  7. completely separate system . the motor is located in the rear by the batteries.
  8. Tanis uses the Cylinder temp holes so if you have or want an engine monitor you will have a conflict. I have the Reiff system and it works well, does not interfere with any other equipment and is relatively easy to install.
  9. in the case of gear up accidents. These all include a complete engine teardown and re-assembly $10k - $20k of the cost. Is there any data that shows how many of these engines are returned to service with no evidence of damage ? Or are they all damaged in some manner ? Would the FAA look at something like this ?
  10. I tested mine by running the tank low and then adding 5 gallons at a time and checking the change in reading. On the ground it was very accurate so I suspect the "change" in amount would be accurate in the air as well. The actual reading vary between on the ground and in the air by about 5 gallons in my experience. The air readings being less than the ground reading.
  11. Insured The unqualified word "Insured", wherever used in this Policy with respect to Coverages A,B,C, and D, includes not only the Named Insured but also any person while using or riding in the Aircraft and any person or organization legally responsible for its use, porvided the actual use is with the express permission of the Named Insured. If the named insured is an LLC, does this protect the named pilot and open pilot from subrogation ?
  12. isn't this true even of a named pilot if they are not the owner ?
  13. what about putting the plane in an LLC, and insuring with a named pilot that is not in the above ^^ categories, then flying the plane on the open pilot clause. ?
  14. the 1984 M20J is one of the most economical Mooneys ever made. You should consistently see 15 mpg at 150KTAS. Yes, you can fly LOP with your setup. BUT I would suggest you sell the 450 and use the money to upgrade the 700 to an 830 If you have not done this yet, you should go up on a clear smooth day to 7000 MSL. Set the power and RPM to cruise, engage the autopilot and let the plane settle into cruise. Note, Airspeed, FF and EGT, 1. start leaning slowly. watch the EGTs and notice the first cylinder to reach peak EGT. 2. record the cylinders as they peak the EGT temp and the FF when they do. Remember, lean slowly. 3. They will all be very, very close. IF you can get a copilot to help with recording the data that would be easier. 4. Don't worry at the temp, go slowly, at 7000' you cannot do anything bad to the engine. keep leaning until all four cylinders reach peak and start to decrease EGT. Your are flying LOP and you just did a GAMI spread. Let us know your results.
  15. Enjoy the Mooney economy. The M20J can consistently get 15 mpg at 150 KTAS. As others have mentioned ^^ the EGT is a reference temp and not a concern. Your GAMI spread is acceptable. Go flying.
  16. Where was the dealer on this? IF you are that busy that you can't spare a moment to stay current in aviation, I (as a customer) would have asked my dealer to do that for me.
  17. call these folks they may be able to help. https://www.preferredairparts.com/
  18. a longer term view also means you can continue to stay current with any future upgrades that might be offered. If you stay with the "old" Pro versions, no upgrades will be compatible.
  19. I would put it on jacks and do the manual gear retract procedure, then try the electric again.
  20. Are you ready to move up ? What others are saying is it was right for them. Everyone learns their own way. Is it right for you ? Only you know the answer to that question. Talk with your instructors. All airplanes respect the laws of aerodynamics. It is the pilot that needs to learn how to control them.
  21. Mooney Model History is updated to current time. Just uploaded to the Downloads section on MooneySpace. I added info since the 2008 shutdown. Anyone having additional details, additions or corrections please do so.
  22. Mooney Model History View File this is an update to the previous list. Please note any errors or additions are welcome. Production numbers are from GAMA Serial numbers are from FAA aircraft database. Information is from various reviews and articles. Submitter Cruiser Submitted 09/07/2020 Category Performance Data
  23. not a surprise you don't even support this group.
