  1. Interesting. If there was two G5’s it would probably just pick one and fly/display that one. But with the txi, even though it syncs the baro, the AP just listens to the g5. IMO the txi should be the primary and trump the g5 for altitude preselect. I wonder if the g3x/g5 combo has this problem?
  2. You could always put the G5 on the other side for copilot instruments. That’s my current thinking with a txi and two G5’s set up in AI configuration. One for backup on the pilot side and one for the copilot.
  3. Does the 310 stc have a limitation on 2700 operation above a certain altitude or duration? 215 kts is smoking fast for that power setting at 10k! No tks or ac I’m guessing.

  5. Are you looking to just replace the lifesaver AI or all three? Trying to move it closer or replace the unit on the far right? Looking to add nav capability?
  6. Because the HSI corrected itself after switching it from slave mode I’d start by checking the 102 gyro in the back of the plane. I also think it would be a good idea to have a backup AI if you don’t already. Lots of good, slightly expensive, options to rectify the problem.
  7. I was trying to make it even. The prices 4200(e5)700(ACU)2300(ea100) and 3k for the install would get the job done IMO. A substantial savings for what you’re trying to do.
  8. Im guessing you could get the E5 installed for ~ 10-10.5. (4200+700+2300+install) For 15 you could have (in the hopefully near future) a new E5 and TT autopilot.

  10. I really think they need a double wide, 4 pack replacement. Would be a nice addition in pfd or mfd format that could complement or replace a current Aspen unit. It would be especially nice for a Mooney panel where the 6 pack is offset. I’ll put my order in for a max update tomorrow if it comes with a wide screen attached.
  11. There is a huge difference between a slush box and some of the new 8-10 speed paddle shifters. Having said that I really like the car models/packages that are only available with a stick shift.

  13. I think his J is a late model (97 or 98?) with the light switches above. The other two are behind the yoke.
  14. It’s the upgrades that kill the budget. Avionics, paint, LR tanks, and pee tubes are budget busters...:)
  15. That joke would have put me sleeping next to the plane in an unheated hangar. Burrr I’d really like to update my stec 50 with a new trutrak but luckily it still works pretty good.
  16. I think the 275 would need to be routed through the gad29b. I think you will need to wait until later this year to see how well the two units work together. It’s just crazy how many different products Garmin is bringing to the market right now.
  17. I really need another tug, but with 8 inches of snow coming this weekend it’s probably not the right unit for me. Time to drag myself to the cold garage and weld up another donor snowblower. This should sell fast.

  20. But when you compare a startup company with a clean sheet design to a unit probably based off the G500/txi software/hardware with thousands of hours real word testing and the best quality control and support...there’s a HUGE difference.
  21. I would think your perfect stepping stone would be replacing the 525 hsi with a g5. That would be a perfect stepping stone for the gfc500 especially since you just overhauled the 256. If down the road you need to replace just the AI and still want your old AP the 275 will work perfectly for you. However, as much as I like my aspen hsi, I’d be tempted to keep the 525 if you already have gpss. By replacing the 256 you could add SV and drop the vac. I think the display looks amazing.
  22. Agree, but my guess is the 275 and esi500 are probably the most reliable AI’s on the market. The g3x / 275 combo would probably be the most resistant with the g5 being a little too similar.
  23. Garmin mentioned the 275 used for txi backup. However, it seems ideal for a g3x backup. It would allow the g3x to be used with a legacy AP with no additional equipment besides a pre select. It’s also nice to be able to use it as an additional mfd/traffic screen when a secondary is not needed. My guess the mfd screen would not be available with the g3x but using it as a backup/driving the AP should work.
  24. The attitude based AP would need one output from the upgraded AI. That $1k upgrade is just replacing the need for an ea100 or gad43. The rest of the communication to other devices does not need that attitude information. As far as I know the 275 does not require a gad 29b or D/A converter et al to talk with navigators or AP’s.
  25. I really don’t think you can compare the Garmin unit to the av30. Construction wise a fully certified TSO’d unit designed for twin turbine aircraft. The build looks to be a big step above the G5 from the outside/connections. My guess is the per unit cost is way above the G5.
