  2. Okay, that makes sense if one is trying to maximize range.
  3. Perhaps you should hire a professional aircraft mechanic when it comes to a safety of flight issue? Trying to save a few $ on a DIY job can come with a high price.
  4. What's the reason for wanting all the fuel in one tank vs having fuel in two tanks? Is it due to concern of running one dry at a critical moment? It would seem you are giving up some redundancy. (I will also add that I never land with less then 1 hr per side. So 2 hrs of fuel total)
  5. What's the cost for paint job on an F model?
  6. I happen to know a thing or two about the "Lopresti Cowl". - There is a lot more to the mod then just a "cowl" (new gear doors, new air box, new baffles, better alternator cooling, improved ram air to name a couple....) It was really designed as a speed mod for the M20J / 201 to improve on the OEM M20J cowling design adding even more speed to the 201. So if you install it on an E or F model you have a different airplane speed and engine cooling wise. I am finishing up the installation of one which was done in conjunction of an engine overhaul and a new interior. Feel free to PM me I can fill you in on pretty much everything you want to know.
  7. 25hrs or 4 months (whichever occurs first) for me, however 50 hrs or 4 months is permissible.
  8. OK, I will take you up on that. I will put my barbell set in there so at least I can workout when I break down.
  9. That's assuming you don't have the option of not carrying said weight, then yes the farther aft (within limits) the better. Your not going to convince me that putting a 50 lb weight in your baggage area is going to count at a speed mod and increase range at the same time.
  10. Too me it doesn't seem right to be flying around with X pounds of tools in the back of the plane all the time. There is a certain amount of efficiency that is lost flying around extra weight. Most stuff that grounds the plane will require a mechanic anyway, since I am not a mechanic why haul around a toolbox?
  11. Cell phone and a credit card.
  12. Engine baffle set off a 1975 F for sale. They have the oil filter relocation mod already done to the back peice. PM if interested.
  13. I have an entire 1975 F cowling for sale. It has the cowl closure mod already done to it as well.
  14. Lopresti STC comes with some fancy new ones, going super sonic baby!
  15. PM if interested in buying.
  16. SOLD Set of nose gear doors off my 1975 M20F for sale. Dan at LASAR says these things sell for $870 each new, I will sell these used ones for significantly less. They probably will fit a J model from the looks of them (verify that before purchase). PM me if interested. These were removed undamaged and are serviceable. They obviously need cleaning and painting
  17. They (Penn Yan) are not the cheapest place, but they do excellent work. (They back that up with a 3 year warranty.) https://www.pennyanaero.com/pdf/pya-overhauled-engines It is surprising you can get it done for 1/2 their price though.
  18. Penn Yan Aero https://www.pennyanaero.com/ Free online instant quote if you fill out the info on the website / 3 year warranty (I just used them for my overhaul.)
  19. Generally????? Just saying.....
  20. You should be running it for takeoff and landing. It serves as a backup for the mechanical pump should the mechanical pump quit during that critical portion of your flight.
  21. Likely your cam / lifters are grinding themselves up. The only "semi positive" about that situation is that you are not in immediate danger flying it. The engine won't quit it will progressively produce less power over time. There is the possibility the metal flakes can find their way into your prop gov and oil cooler and ruin them though. This problem seems to occur mostly in planes that don't fly much.....
  22. LASAR lists it at $490.00
  23. I will have a cowl closure available soon off my airplane. Heck the entire cowling actually and nose gear doors too (1975 M20F). Should have it here in another week or two. Chromed spinner with bulkhead as well will be for sale.
  24. The biggest problem by far being outside on a tiedown is corrosion. Corrosion is death to little airplanes. Leaving it out on a tiedown in rainstorms getting totally saturated + winter snow storms... no thanks! I don't even wash my airplane because I don't want to promote corrosion. I would not own an airplane if I were not able to have it in a hangar.
  25. Without money there would be no magic machine to show off your magic skills.... ha ha ha I stand by my observation that money is what makes an airplane fly. It simply can't happen without money. Even the Wright brothers would have never flown without money.
