  1. Is your plane kept outside on a tiedown? I'm wondering why you are having corrosion issues?
  2. Shock Disc replacement
  3. Definitely pay the money and take the hangar. Corrosion is death to little airplanes, not total time or age. I have two hangars one where I live, and the other where my dad lives because I visit so often. So, I am paying for two just to keep my plane out of the elements. Mike
  4. http://flightaware.com/live/aircrafttype/M20 This seems to work as well..... Yes, I'm a Mooney nerd for sure.
  5. My F has one. Works well and you can definitely tell it is a little quieter in cruise with it inflated, at least in my case.
  6. My 75 M20F became almost impossible to start a while back. You would have to try 4 or 5 times to start it and sometimes it would kick back too.The shop first tried sending the fuel servo out for overhaul, that did not fix the issue in my case. Turned out to be an issue with the Mags. Had the Mags and wires replaced and it fixed the issue.
  7. http://flightaware.com/live/aircrafttype/M20P This is kind of cool. Shows you where all the Mooney's are currently flying IFR or with VFR flight following. http://flightaware.com/live/aircrafttype/M20T
  8. Any intel on who is still doing cowling mods? I have talked to Lopresti and that one is pretty expensive. I don't know the status of SWTA? Were they doing them recently before their owner passed? I see they will reopen Jan 01. Any Mooney shops doing them? What about the ARI? Is that one any good? My cowling is pretty beat up and I am planning on getting my M20F painted next year, so now would be the time. Thanks! Mike
  9. Yes, I was very pleased with what they charged me for the installation and the low markup on the equipment. The shop mentioned they ran over over the 85 hours of labor, but stuck with their estimate and didn't charge me for the overage. Garmin is offering a limited time rebate program right now I see. So, it might be a good time to consider doing the upgrade.
  10. I had a GDL88, GTN 750, 406MHZ ELT, and a True Blue TSO duel USB charger installed in my M20 F this summer. Here is what it all cost. This is from the actual bill from the avionics shop. (The exception was my transponder needing service and a pitot static check were extra.) I could not be more pleased with how it turned out. Description of work Equipment CostRemove KY197 Remove KNS80 Removed GPS60 Removed WX-8 Installation of the following: GTN750 $13,943 GDL88 3,296 Dual USB 375 ACK/E-04 674 Misc - wire, crimps, splices, etc. 400 Sub Total $18,688 Sales Tax 1261 Equipment Total with Tax 19,949 Total Labor 85 hrs @ $60/hr 5,100 Grand Total $25,049

  12. Thanks everyone! Referencing the above I found the exact nomenclature. This board is a wonderful reference! "WARNING: DO NOT EXCEED 10 LBS. (4.5 Kg) IN THIS COMPARTMENT. USE FOR STOWAGE OF LIGHT SOFT ARTICLES ONLY. SEE AIRCRAFT LOADING SCHEDULE DATA FOR BAGGAGE COMPARTMENT ALLOWABLE" I thought I would print my own, but I would prefer a factory looking placard if I can get one. I just sent an email to LASAR seeing if they have it.......
  13. My max weight placard on the hat rack has gone missing. Anyone with a 1975 F model happen to know what the weight limit is? I wish to make a new label and stick it back on. Thanks! Mike
  14. http://www.falconinsurance.com/ P.O. Box 291388 Kerrville, TX 78029 Toll Free: (800) 880-4545 Phone: (830) 257-1000 Fax: (830) 792-1144 I have been using Falcon for over a decade now. Great folks, and for me they have had the best rates as well. I have been dealing with Cliff Bertholf his email is CBertholf@falconinsurance.com. One thing I have learned is that if you call around to different agents to get competing quotes it turns out to be a bad idea. Once one underwriter issues a quote for you to one agent, the underwriter blocks quotes for subsequent agents that may contact them to get a rate for you.
  15. I had it installed a few years back by Causey Aviation. I will try to look through my old bills (my next trip to the hangar) and see what the cost was to install and I will report back to you. The system also has a small microwave transmitter mounted on the bottom of the airplane which senses the ground and warns you of the landing gear being up. (In case you have too much power on to activate the throttle microswitch, which would normally trigger the warning). It has proven to be very reliable and certainly does its job well. Correction to the above post I have P/N 2037 installed, not P/N 2040. Essentially, the same unit plus the microwave transmitter...... I do not know if they run specials or not.
  16. I have the P/N 2040-1-2 Voice Alert installed in my M20F. It sounds the stall and gear voice warning through the speaker and headset. You will hear "STALL,STALL,STALL....." or "CHECK LANDING GEAR, CHECK LANDING GEAR....." not just a generic warning horn. As long as it is working it will prevent a gear up landing. It will be screaming at you until the gear is down and locked.
  17. I have a GTN 750 in my F model. It comes with 2 data cards. One stays in the unit, and the other is to take home and update. You then switch them out after updates. The datacard is supposed to stay in the unit while you are using it. So, yes I believe it would be two cards required for updating two units. I believe I saw on the Garmin update site that you can update two GTN units for the same price if you happen to have two in your plane. I had the GTN installed this summer with a GDL88 to get ready for ADSB.
  18. What airport is your plane based at? I'm based near GSO, have my CFI. Not sure if I can help or not. Currently own and fly a 1975 M20F for 12 years now. I don't instruct for a living and haven't for many years, but my CFI is current.
