  1. I try and keep enough gas in the aircraft that it really doesn't matter which tank I'm on, but if it matters the first thing I do when I get in the aircraft is put the selector where I want it. Before I put the key in, before I adjust the seat, before everything. First thing, set it where I want it. I usually try and switch tanks at the top of the descent. I hate doing it in the pattern since I have to unbuckle the shoulder belt and reach down to do it, not things I want to do while low and slow potentially with other airplanes nearby.
  2. I never use a doohickey to change mine. I enjoy the autoerotic experience that seems to be a side-effect of changing tanks.
  3. Aircraft "needs" neither. Still laughably cheap for an E in this market.
  4. Funny, I don't see it at all.
  5. Whenever my Mrs. and I see something in a store without a price we assume it's free...
  6. Something smells. the aircraft is laughably cheap in this market and hasn't sold...
  7. I'm 5'7" and I fit in my Mooney just fine, and it might for sale quite soon...
  8. Little curious who these "environmental Globalists" actually are. As far as I can tell hereabouts the energy companies are very large and very much in charge. Yeah, there'll be lots of oil until there isn't, and then things will get really really bad. Fossil fuels are an expendable resource, question is at what point do we hit Peak Oil. With any luck not in my lifetime, but I wouldn't ay much beyond that.
  9. What really sucks for the Ruskies is tanks getting stuck in the mud is absolutely the least of their problems in Ukraine. They haven't even got air superiority.
  10. Right now it's starting to look like I'll have a couple partners in place by next month. If that isn't the case I sell the Mooney and bail.
  11. My mechanic is a real fix it guy. When this happened to me he took the put apart and fixed it somehow. I don't recall what he did, but he said it took a week and he was pretty chuffed about it.
  12. I can't believe there's a club that can afford the insurance on a Mooney. The ones here can't.
  13. 70% take off speed by midfield, otherwise abort. Watch for gopher holes, wet spots, gremlins.
  14. If these guys had any sense they'd make it so you can effortlessly swap the battery. Drain one, land, put in a fresh one.
  15. Apples and oranges. Make the Mooney tail out of magnesium and see how it does. Bo's are pretty, but I'd not touch one with a stick now that Textron has stopped making the V-tails.
  16. Tom, while I'm glad you're back in the Mooney fold I was horrified to learn what befell that gorgeous Lanceair. If there is anyone who can return it to the skies it would be you. I am especially glad you're OK, you must be a wizard pilot. Better than me at any rate, though that truly isn't saying much. Good luck with the project, your Lanceair was a work of art.
  17. You can usually get a call out when you're on approach to the airport. If you get low enough you can hit the cell phone towers, say if you want to tell the person picking you up that you'll be there in a few minutes.
  18. Tom, I hope we can catch up at Oshkosh. I too am saddened beyond words at the intimation that an untimely fate might have befell your amazing project. My hope is you were offered so much money for it that you just couldn't refuse.
  19. I haven't the words. Condolences to the OP, this is horrible. Yes, what we do is dangerous.
  20. Had I a Tiger I doubt I would switch unless it was a 201 or better. The Tiger is just a fairly similar aircraft. That said, I routinely lampoon the Grumman Gang. A similarly equipped Tiger sells for a lot more than the short body Mooney that can handily outrun it. Indeed they sell for 201 prices, and at that point it isn't even a comparison.
  21. I have had zero push back in my valuation and might have thought to go higher. I had a pilot come by who looks like a good fit for a partner, and more interested. I cannot be more pleased.
  22. There is a fellow who posts here who geared up his C/D because the gear received some faulty maintenance and wouldn't retract. I suspect our rates reflect things like the Max crashes far more than the occasional (or not so occasional) gear up accident. I'm watching to see what'll happen with events in Russia. Apparently no one owns airplanes anymore, they're all leased. There are on the order of 500 leased airliners flying around in Russia. As soon as the sanctions hit the lessors wanted the airplanes back. Putin said no, and had them all registered as Russian airliners. They have now disappeared into a black hole from which they will never again appear except possibly as used parts. That's billions in losses, and I don't who who's going to absorb it.
  23. Chatted with a fellow in a nice looking Arrow the other day. He had just picked it up for a mere $150K. I'm looking for partners right now, showing the airplane to a couple potentials this weekend. My current valuation is $75K, based on what I'm seeing in the market. If I sell it that's what I'll ask for. That said I have quite a bit of interest from potential partners so I think I'll be a Mooney owner and an Airman for some time yet.
  24. I'd look that thing over good for corrosion before I sunk a dime into it. Looked really scary to me. If there's corrosion in the frame it's done for.
  25. I still drop the gear 3 miles out...
