  1. Lotta Mooney for not much money. Good luck with the sale.
  2. I think I joined that once and became the proud owner of a receipt.
  3. I doubt you've priced it that high, you're just in the wrong venue. Try Trade-a-Plane and/or Controller and/or Barnstromers. You're either selling an airplane or you aren't. Do or do not, there is no try.
  4. I was talking to another Mooney owner about my low flap speed when he mentioned that he forgot flaps once and flew clear across the country with them out. They were fine. Mooneys are stout beasts. I am happy to say that leaving flaps hanging is one of the few bone-headed things I haven't done yet.
  5. Someone posted on this here site that the dude who designed that cowl mod did it to make the airplanes look better, and that it has naught to do with speed or engine cooling.
  6. Most of the stuff on the OP's list falls under the rubric of "if it ain't broke don't fix it". But that's just me.
  7. Mine is missing digits. I'm going to yank it out of the panel and se if I can get the display off, I bet I can. If so I'm going to clean jp the contacts, as that's it's main problem. Before the digits went you could bring them back by tapping on the glass.
  8. Have them leave it open so you can do your inspection. You'll have to close it up (or pay to do so), but you'd have to do that anyway to carry out an inspection.
  9. The absolute best speed mod is adding more fuel. Not having to stop makes trips lots shorter. All the other speed mods pale in comparison. Most you won't even notice except on the longest trips. Not having to do a half hour fuel stop is a biggie.
  10. Squirt a little lubricant in there or put in some grease. It'll help, a lot. Don't ask me how I know.
  11. HoW many of these Mooneys are for sale right now? Will there be another purchase opportunity in the near future? The market is a little nuts right now. Had this question been asked two years ago the answer would have been a definite no. Now, not so much.
  12. I'm selling right now. The market is hot. I think the OP should do likewise. In a buyer's market missing logs are an albatross. In a seller's market not so much. Missing logs are just a matter of money.
  13. Dunno if you're right about prices coming down. I'm selling mine (it will be for sale at Oshkosh) and looking for comparisons there were only about 3 C's for sale in the whole country. Supply and demand, if the supply stays low and the demand remains prices go up.
  14. The electric gear is the exact same as the J-bar, there's just a motor instead of a stout right arm. There are far greater things to worry about.
  15. Pretty soon I'm not going to own any airplane.
  16. I can get anywhere east of the Mississippi faster than an airliner except perhaps Orlando in my lowly C. If I can fill couple seats cheaper too. I am going to SO miss my Mooney.
  17. This is a really simple one. Ever thought you had done something but hadn't? I KNOW I have, it's just a trick of memory and humans are susceptible to it. You hit the gear switch over and over, it's really easy to think you did when you didn't. Granted you'll do a GUMPS check if you're doing due diligence, but even that can be accidentally skipped (you think the one you did on the last circuit is the one you did a second ago) or forgotten in distraction. We humans are distractible animals by nature. Says me what we do is hard enough, no need to do it harder. Landing circuits make sense in a trainer, the gear is welded down. If you forget flaps, prop, whatever else you can still land safely. I feel a complex aircraft is a different beast, and a poor one for doing landing circuits. Accidents like this reinforce my conclusions. I know you're all going to say you've done lots of circuitous T&Gs and never had a problem. I know another guy who would probably say that. The dude who geared up his Mooney and started this thread.
  18. I keep telling you guys T&Gs in a Mooney are bad news.
  19. I'll be there sometime during the weekend before depending on the weather. Used to do Monday evening. Always happy to see my Mooney peeps.
  20. If someone made a video of my landings it'd be good for laughs (and lots of Monday morning quarterbacking).
  21. I'm wondering what kind of maintenance problem brings down a Mooney hard enough to kill both passengers? Remember, it's a Mooney. Even if the mill quits the thing glides fine, it does help to find a soft spot to set down in. Given that they were over an airport I suspect those were plentiful.
  22. If I ever die in an aviation accident please discuss said accident even if it means ripping a big nasty hole in my fat hairy pale white six. If a discussion of my misadventure can save one pilot from repeating my mistake it's a good thing.
  23. At one point there were lots of Lancairs (the certified ones) waiting for some avionics (Garmin screwed the pooch). While they were waiting serenely on the ramp a nasty hail storm came through and damaged every one of them. After that Lance Neibauer threw in the towel.
  24. I hate mine, pain in the six and always breaks in the winter. I only use it when flying Mrs. Steingar.
