I like what I saw from pipistrel's videos. I like how they are trying to get performance from efficiency rather than just throwing more power on the firewall. With the Io-390, the pantera may end up being similar to our dreams of a what a new J would be in some ways.
-
Thank you for correcting me. I guess someone put some "spin" on that fact. Pun intended. To be honest, that's why I put question marks at the end of those sentences.
-
But why do they want 300hp? Performance, right? It is better to get the same performance with better efficiency, right? If all performance is equal, why would you want to burn more fuel and maintain more engine? IMHO, 300hp doesn't mean anything if it's not running. It seems like the cirrus power plants have had a lot of problems causing accidents, right? Also, why would anyone want to buy a plane that couldn't be certified to recover from a spin without a parachute? I bet the average cirrus owner doesn't know that? Maybe a competitor should put that on a megaphone? When I think about that, it reminds me about the poor girl and guys that went down in Huston last year spinning in from the pattern. Yea, pilotage, but still the numbers speak volume to me.
-
"UNABLE" (to do so prudently), but if I were in the economic position to buy a new SEL, I can say that I would prefer that to a cirrus at the similar price points each for NA, FIKI, & TC versions. No doubt. In my mind, the cirrus's safety record, in spite of all its "safety technology" speaks for itself. I also think diesel power plants are the way of the future.

I think a new sleeked up J with a smooth and efficient diesel that will run on jetA with 1100lbs UL and 180ktas would be the ticket. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Cuyahoga Co (CGF) arrival question
Browncbr1 replied to Browncbr1's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
It says from KEATN, expect vectors to all other airports. I'm just going to fly to KEATN and ask for lower according to the situation. In fact, TVT to KEATN is more direct because going via BSV requires a bit of a dogleg earlier in the route due to VOR locations. Thanks for the help all... will report back -
Cuyahoga Co (CGF) arrival question
Browncbr1 replied to Browncbr1's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
I don't have a GPS, other than Aera 510 and ipad. I'm planning to get a GTN650 installed once the G5 HSI is certified for driving an autopilot. After inputting my flight plan on the map, it automatically snaps to KEATN from both TVT and BSV. It's really just one intersection, so I might as well fly it, but I don't like being at 9000 that close, so I'll ask for lower in advance. -
Cuyahoga Co (CGF) arrival question
Browncbr1 replied to Browncbr1's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Thanks for letting me know. I plan to make the trip in a week or two and will post back here what happens. I'm currently thinking to file via BSV, then if they give me the STAR it will be easy to transition from there or continue on own navigation with vectors soon after. -
Cuyahoga Co (CGF) arrival question
Browncbr1 replied to Browncbr1's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
The STAR is for Cleveland metro, but they are published together with the Cuyahoga co airport procedures also. I've never flown a star before, but this particular airport is on the approach end in the bravo... I know I'm flying a slow and low single engine, but wasn't sure what to expect -
Seeking advice on arrival procedure for Cuyahoga Co airport (CGF) from the south or southwest (BSV or TVT) for those who frequent the area. Should I expect to follow the KEATN SIX STAR even if I'm cruising below 10k? Or is it typical to just get vectors for the ILS after crossing Briggs vortac?

Good news. Hope it's not fake news. I have been holding off on a gtn650 install until I know I can get the double G5 package to go in at the same time and drive my AP.

Trio Autopilot- Please respond if you want one
Browncbr1 replied to merrja's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Even though I already have an AP, I would replace it with a trio if the price were to stay similar to what they currently sell for ($3k) after certification. More than doubling the price is nonsense- 38 replies

Tragic crash not reported for 21 hours-Poll
Browncbr1 replied to XXX's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
I hear ELT soundings several times on the ground, but figured it is someone testing their box... I used to monitor guard all the time, but everytime I travel, particularly over and around Ohio, someone is playing around making silly sounds and playing the bird is the word over guard. Sometimes I tell them that no one will help them if they really need help. Other times I just turn volume all the way down. -
check crank flange for run out and magnaflux... if within spec, and no case cracks, i hope the prop can just be repaired... I'd be checking the engine mounts and firewall, etc.. for cracks as someone mentioned too.. hope this works out!

Tommy, I could say worse things, but the basics are that you don't know how to communicate very well or when to move on, so you're now on my (and several others') ignore list. Wishing you luck when you need help down the road.

New, Considering Older Mooney - Anyone near west Kentucky?
Browncbr1 replied to hacair's topic in General Mooney Talk
Based on your budget and mission, I would look for an original shotgun panel F with a jbar.. (They typically have more useful load ~1040lbs and can be had within your budget if you are patient.). Just focus on getting one with no corrosion. Panel gizmos are getting cheaper and more options continue to hit the market. You can add those things later to make it better, but the ole shot gun panel is legal too in the mean time. The backseat is comfy even with front seats in their aft position. I sat in the back seat of an E before buying mine and it didn't take long to determine it wouldn't be comfy for adults on longer flights. Some will argue, but that is my opinion. The F also has more luggage volume capacity, which I have found to fill up before station weight is exceeded. There have been MANY times for me when the extra 50-100lbs useful makes a trip doable non-stop without having to worry about fuel. Good luck! -
I frequent Wayne co (BJJ). I will be there in early May, but you'll probably find another one to look at sooner and closer. 67 F

Yea, you're probably right.
