A while back I noticed unstable fuel pressure and missing at altitude. I also found that pressure wouldn't hold at mixture cutoff on the ground. I preemptively purchased a new fuel pump, but shortly later found that it was all due to a fitting at the fuel transducer that had small traces of dye. I tightened it and problem went away. My question is, what do folks think about removing and replacing my fuel pump at annual, even though the current one works ok? Last time it was removed and overhauled, according to logs, was at 1998 major overhaul. I am thinking I should keep this fuel pump on the shelf rather than risk a maintenance induced failure of fuel line fitting leaks or gasket leak or just infant mortality. Thoughts???

Leaving was a not so great experience either unfortunately. We were standing at the counter in the FBO for what seemed like forever and 4 people working there wouldn't give us the time of day... finally, I was served a bill for $17 after I told them that I was going to buy gas at the pump. They said, oh ok, then the $35 handling fee is waived and I kind of chucked and said, what handling... the line guys refused to handle my plane ..but it fell on deaf ears. My wife said, I guess we need a citation to get a smile here.... Let's blow this joint, ...so we did. It took 15 minutes for someone to let us through the gate and to our plane with the rental car... we needed to sense we were parked so far away... taxied to bfe to get fuel... called ground and got my clearance. They told us to hold short of the taxiway... There was not a single plane on the field, no kidding... we were at the end of the field too. I think we were the only machine running at the airport. After sitting there for a minute or two I asked the controller if it would be easier if I depart vfr so we can get out of here.. my engine is getting hot and I still need to taxi a mile and a half. So he was nice and all and cleared us to taxi to 35. When we got down there, I told tower we are ready and they told me to hold short for Cessna traffic on 5 mile final. Are you kidding me? After waiting an eternity while we watched the landing light burn like a lone star in the desert sky, we finally got out. What's up with crazy big separation AVL ATC? They were doing that same kind of big separation Friday as well, so I guess it is SOP for them.

Asheville vectored us on a 25nm downwind, so it pretty much doubled our flight time from knoxville. When we arrived to signature, they were running around crazy busy. They signaled us to park in front of the FBO, we shut down and got out. They were nice and all, but a few minutes later, they asked me to start it back up to taxi to a far away spot. They said they won't touch a mooney because they are afraid to break the nose gear. it seems they weren't afraid to tow the acclaim away on a dolly, but they obviously couldn't bare to keep my lowly old vintage F near the whiny shiny jets for 20 hours. I don't know why they didn't just signal me to go park where they wanted to me if they knew they weren't going to tow it. Oh well. I'd rather restart and taxi than have my gear torn up!

I think they didn't waste testing dollars because their plan is to get the G5HSI A/P certified and then you have your backup AI one button click away. If AP out is certified at osh, then I'm buying

my riding days are pretty much over... I used to race WERA 600 and worked for Joe Rocket... basically got burned out. It was sad to hear about Nicky Hayden... I had outfitted him and his brothers while he was riding AMA and his first two seasons of MotoGP. We did a few midnight drunken hot laps in rental cars at mid ohio one year... I've left a few pieces of plastic along 129 and plenty of tickets for the privilege of seeing what a liter bike can do. After having changed final drive, tires, and setup on the TW, it is a pretty sweet street fighter though. I had thought about taking it up there, but I just haven't had the drive to make it happen.

he said it will be posted at 7pm

my urban street converted TW200 might fit!... jk... I've seen it fit into a maule though.. These days, just the electric scooters come with us in the mooney

What burns me up is that the airport was built with tax payer dollars for the purpose of bringing in commerce. The hotel tax is more than what signature demands. Plus food, shopping, etc... so, in some cases, since the airport authority cut the deal to let signature in, they have actually hurt the local economy... stupid and not good stewardship of tax payer investment IMHO.

Another thing I found out is that if you rent a car in signature it is about $65 per day... if you're willing to walk 400-500yds to the main terminal, the same car from the same company is $20/day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'll be arriving there at or right before noon. Our plan is to stay at the double tree just north of the biltmore and do a few brewery tours and find some good food, which should be fun.. coming back Saturday. Yea, at $35 per night, I wouldn't stay longer than a night or two. Ridiculous.

As of today, they have a $35 tie down fee that is waived with purchase of 7 gallons. FS@$7 or SS@$5. The $5 security fee isn't waived though. I'll taxi to the fuel pump on arrival.

thanks.. it won't be too bad since it's just one night...

At AVL, are we forced to go to Signature, or is there another area that GA can tie down?

Perhaps someone has a few pucks to take down to the local mac truck dealer to see if they have identical parts with part numbers and all...

Are you able to temporarily switch the top and bottom ignition leads so you can see if the same results happen using the mag?
-
Are you able to switch coils around?

I feel good about AC blend product and price, I've only put about 250 hours on my engine since buying with 440 hours though. Engine runs perfect and uses a quart every 12 hours or so. I know 4 engines that have been field overhauled after using avblend with 25 hour oil changes to 3000-3500 hours and the fairy said they looked nearly new inside. Anecdotal I know.

I use av blend, but not as sub for cam guard. I use it to supplement my synthetic blend with more molecules to hold byproducts and keep them suspended to avoid possible sludge issues. I use Exxon elite because it already has additives that achieve similar results to camguard. I also usually fly every week, 2 weeks max Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hi David, Is the price range you mentioned earlier based on dropping off a plane and picking it up looking like the one above? Painted and ready to go? -craig -
How Many Hours Between Oil Changes?
Browncbr1 replied to MyNameIsNobody's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Synthetic oil does not do as good of a job of suspending byproducts. There are additives to help this, but conventional oil is best for keeping dirt in suspension to avoid sludge. I personally use the Exxon elite blend which with avblend. The Exxon elite has additives that function like camguard.. it is a blend, so most of it is conventional to keep particulate in suspension and the avblend supplements that as well. But, even with a fraction of the oil being synthetic, I still change at 25 hours to keep clean and less acidic. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

The purple box gila tint is available at advanced auto parts. I got 20% on the back windows and nothing on front windows. Yea, as others suggested. 35% up front and 20% on the rear would probably be good. I have pull down suction cup shades also, but I don't use them because it's too difficult to see through them. I have not applied my film with soapy water as others have suggested.. I'm thinking about doing it though because I am sure it will improve visibility and look. If I do that, I'll put the 20% upfront and report back. Cheers to thread drift! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Gila has several static cling tint qualities. The red box just tints, but the purple box has claims that there is something in it that actually blocks heat, not just sun rays.. I'm not sure about the claim, but my 20% from the purple box makes a massive difference.

+1 on Gila static cling tint. Huge difference. Regarfing the IR, it's pretty awesome not being a nervous wreck watching weather constantly. This morning, I made a trip from East TN to NE Ohio that I wouldn't have been able to do safely vfr. The IR helps this time of year, but other times it's kind of useless due to ice.
